    Default Is DLV worth playing?

Is this game really worth playing, what's so special about it apart from the role playing?

    yes.
    Everything.

BTW: You should scan over the DLV 6.0: Stratey Guide For New Players, it covers around 60-80% of he game and its systems in a commen-man lanuage.

I could write many, many, many pages of what DLV includes, from top to bottom, but I ask you to take a good look in SGFNP, Handbook or Downloading thread. Then post your questions of how interesting systems work and tips around them.

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

    I totally agree with Blackleaf-Wille!

I'm playing DLV since the 3.0 release and I was never disappointed. I never stepped back to "vanilla" MTW2 after I experienced the unique atmosphere of DLV.

The DLV-modding team is constantly improving this game and each release gets better even more.

Sure "Broken:Crescent" is a decent mod too, but you can't compare the two mods because they cover different regions, settings and factions.

Read the SGFNP and download the outstanding handbook which covers each new feature of DLV!

No other mod of MTW2 did improve my gaming pleasure so much.

The thing I don't like about DLV is that they've left the Turks the same. I wish they'd borrow Broken Crescent's units for the Turkish Sultanate. The current vanilla units has textures which look like scrambled eggs.

Broken Crescent doesn't allow (quite rightly) other modifications to use their hard work.

Well, DLV is under constant dlvelopment, so give it time to polish every aspect. By now, I invite you to enjoy its very hard mode, as it is a true and complete challenge. You will suffer many defeats, and not only military. Pay attention every turn to your economy, politics and military situation, because you can be friend to everyone and in one turn become the most threatened empire.

P.S.: I, by now, am playing Alien vs Predator 2, and I alt + tab every five minutes to check the forums I am registered at... that game is SO DAMN FRIGHTENING. ^^u

I have also experienced the turks, so I know exactly what you are talking about. I challange Ataturk to go on offencive over to BC, and break a deal.Badabi bada-bom.

DLV newly got a brand new Diplomacy A.I, so reputation is extremly importent to strike any diplomatic deal.

Well the units are pretty much the same but, although it looks a lot like vanilla M2TW looks can be deceiving and the AI plus the gameplay area is absolutely wonderful. It might not be a popular mod like Stainless Steel but its an unearthed gem. I love the map as well, it is just so beautiful, better than SS map which in my opinion has way too many forests and everything is cramped a bit too much. Also the forts give the game a different feel. And the eyecandy isn't bad either, it's not overwhemling but it doesn't remind you of the vanilla M2TW and actually adds some spice into the game. Lastly, but not least, music is good and a change from the old M2TW music....MTW has always been one of my favourite games and the music fits just right.

I don't know if people reading this might enjoy it but i wasn't sure either until i looked at AAR's and tried it myself. Everyone is different and i am not trying to compare any mod nor downgrade them...i still love SS and play it some times, in fact i used to be the biggest SS fan boy but it has gotten a bit messy and all over the place if you know what i mean.
All i can say is try it and decide for yourself. Think of DLV as that shy kid in your classroom but when you get to know him he suddenly is the life of the party.
"we're way way pre-alpha and what that means is there is loads of features not just in terms of the graphics but also in terms of the combat and animations that actually aren't in the game yet.So the final game is actually gonna look way way better than this!” - James Russell, CA
Just like the elephant animation, this Carthage scenario is actually in the game, it just has a small percantage factor for showing up, that's all...

to be hoonest it is the only m2tw mod that i still play. even third age total war, a mod i was waiting for like mad feels flat and tasteless after a few days despite all the awesome units.

it is true that dlv has mostly ugly units and i d love a dlv version with skins and textures of mods like BC or SS but it is secondary for me. still hope someone will do this move to also make the units pretty

well, since I haven't been playing M2TW for a while(since ETW is out) I haven't been here for a while

I have to absolutley agree that DLV is one of the best mods for Kingdoms, I haven't played the M2TW version though.
It offers script based tweaks in upkeep and character development. Really impressive what can be done It gives you a quite big map (bigger than vanilla, I still would love 5 times as big) with lots of new buildings, units, optical campagne map improvement etc.

And I have to agree on Tokus Its absolutley addictive!!!

You just have to try it

All this banging on about ugly units, I admit, some could do with a touch up but hell, in my opinion they look slightly better than SS. I mean take a look at England, I mean really take a look, they look exactly how I imagined they would have looked all those years ago.

Best mod I've found for a long time, well done guys

I agree and I find the DLV Campaign map completely superior. And the units, personally I just find them 'grittier' than other mods...

Also really 'frilly' units have the tendency to slam your frame rates anyway.
