Default Changing the textures of a unit with those of another unit, how to do it?

hello i have a question, i want to play with the Italian states faction, however i really don't like their units colors and skins and I would like to change them.

I really liked some of the retextures the modders have released, so i was thinking, without messing with unit files, building files etc, can i simply put the texture of a unit (say one of the many version of retextured british infantry of the line) in the place of the texture of another unit? (say the Italian states infantry of the line?)
And do the same for militia, grenadiers, cavalry and so on?

which files I have to change to make this work, and where can i find them?
+ rep for help of course, and thanks in advance

Yes, but You ahve to change gloss map of the unit.
You should colored places that are red to black, then Italian "normal" colors won't appear. That's not the end. You will have to color the British unit (otherwise it will be white, becouse all textures are white, and in gloss map red is a place where automatic colors appears)
And do the same for militia, grenadiers, cavalry and so on?
    Yes here is no difference.

    Hope I helped

    EDITED:
One more thing. The Italian states have the same texture as the other minor nations (exept Denmark) have. Changeing texture for them-changeing for the rest of minor nations.

thanks for the help (+ rep!), the fact that all the minor faction will have the same texture however is really bad news
maybe it would be better to create new units for the Italian states and give them the textures i want, even if it is a time consuming work if done for many units.

But no one has made a reaskin/retexture of the Italian states units?

    Someone madehttp://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=266811.

You could of course create new unit Yourselfe for Italians, but I'm sure they did it in mod
