    Default Change names?

When i play this fantastic mod, one thing keeps bothering me:
The towns and castles that are called: Orc Encampement or Mountain Fort....

Couldn't you guys just make up names?
I know it wouldn't be tolkien's name, but it would enhance the feel of the game i think...
    Please consider this

    No!

    Not in Mordor!

Gorgoroth doesn't have any settlements, but it's covered with camps, hence the orc encampements.

In my hotseat playing Mordor, and my friends being Rhûn and Harad, I renamed them Rhûn Encampement and Harad Encampement. Afterwards I traded them to the spesific faction, getting another settlement in return.

The problem is that the basic idea of Medieval II: Total War is: each regions has 1 settlement. Empire: Total war is different.
Mordor didn't really have 'settlements', there were some camps though.
So I can understand they rather choose Orc encampment.

so why not give them names that sound more middle-earth-ish?
I know that there are no real castles r anything there, just camps, but even camps can have names right?

Not camps you set up for one day, then to move on the next day.

They could translate "Orc Encampement" to Elvish or something, but honestly that would've been even worse in the middle of Mordor... though Minas Morgul is...

No idea if this is completely correct, but from wikipedia:

Within Tolkien's invented languages, the Elvish words for "orc" are derived from a root ruk referring to fear and horror, from which is derived an expanded form of the root, uruk. A noun *uruku is produced from the extended root. This eventually turns into Quenya urco, plural urqui. A related word *urkō produces Sindarin orch, plural yrch. The Quenya words are said to be less specific in meaning than the Sindarin, meaning "bogey". For the specific creatures called yrch by the Sindar, the Quenya word orco, with plurals orcor and orqui, was created.
These orcs had similar names in other languages of Middle-earth: in Orkish uruk (restricted to the larger soldier-orcs), in the language of the Drúedain gorgûn, in Khuzdul rukhs, plural rakhâs, and in the language of Rohan and in the Common Speech orc.

And camp or encampement would be estolad i think, because estolad in was in common tongue: The Encampement...

And that would be completely dumb in my opinion, because those of us who have read the Silmarillion and the history of the first age would simply just get annoying flashbacks to the first encampment of the humans, east of Doriath in Beleriand.

No thanks. It's fine as it is

I agree with those who says that the names should stay as they are. The settlements on Gorgoroth is only encampments, and therefore the namne "Orc Encampment" are fitting names. If you would like another name, just rename them yourself.

There is a good reason for the developers team made some settlements named "something" encampment, as others said allready. There is no reason for changing it.

If you want to change the name for yourself, enjoy, its very easy to do.

btw, I think there should be more forts in Gorgoroth placed a little around, and Cirith Ungol and Dirith Ungol should be like wooden castles or something...

If you find the names dull just (when you own the settlement, of course) double click on the settlement name in the construction tab to rename it. Voilà!! I always make "W.Osgiliath" into "West Osgiliath" simply because it looks better.
