Default ETW on Sale at Steam this weekend only 6/19-6/22 50% off!

I noticed that ETW is 50% off at Steam this weekend (6/19/09-6/22/09) which is a really good deal if you are trying to get a friend to pick it up for MP, buy an extra copy to try an badger your spouse into it, or know someone who is thinking of getting it. The game is being patched to where it should be, and $25 for the basic edition is pretty good.

Or maybe the patch is going to be an epic failure and STEAM is trying to dump as many copies as possible before the coming catastrophe.

Very clever tactic from CA. Everyone who is thinking of byuing the game AFTER the next patch, to see if this patch finally turns the game into a retail version, will think twice now. Wait....or buy for half the price....wait....or buy for half the price...wait...

Yes. What a coincidence.I didn`t want to think Patches were tied into money so obviously, but there`s the proof.

This is a fantastic idea. With the new patch and the sale, the game should have a new surge of people. Can't wait to see more people in multiplayer!

Meh, the game isn't perfect, but it's far from a wasted €40, as far as I;m concerned.

Even with all it's faults, 25 bucks for a game like this is a steal.

I still think I should only have to buy one copy if I want to play multiplayer with my spouse on my LAN on my computers in my house.

    Just my opinion.

So now they are running a product clearance sale for Empire. So much for the "continued long term support" for Empire. You don't dump your product out and continue to offer strong support. Considering how many months its been since the last patch, it is evident that Creative Assembly has moved on to a new product. Hello Napoleunic expansion.

More and more I suspect that to get a finished game you are going to need to buy the expansion. It isn't like CA hasn't pulled that one before.

I've seen 50% off Steam sales before. It is by no means an indicator of future support by CA.

How the heck do you get all this from just having a weekend sale?

For those of you who don't know, there are sales on Steam EVERY weekend, from all kinds of publishers and developers. They're called "Steam Weekend Deals." They're part of what makes Steam Steam, and they almost always temporarily boost sales and generate extra hype for the game being put on sale. Doing a half-off weekend several months after release doesn't mean they're giving up on the game, if that's the case I guess the Soldier, Demoman and Engineer will never get class updates in TF2.

Seriously man, I think some of you would be disappointed if the next patch magically fixed every single issue with the game

My friends and I are looking at Steam every weekend to see what went on sale, and we e-mail each other if we see anything really good. I got Mount & Blade on a 50% off weekend, and it continued to get patched, so I don't think it necessarily means the end of any fixes for ETW. It might until an expansion, but $25? Yes, there are people who hate the game and think $1 is too much, but I would guess a lot more would think $25 is a good deal.

BTW, I have 3 Steam accounts because I bought a 4 pack of Left 4 Dead for home MP, and gave one copy away. I have a lot of different games across those accounts, so I obviously do not have problems with Steam. I'm tempted to get another ETW copy so that when my buddies come over for football game weekends, I'll have 3 copies and one buddy will have a 4th so we can get some 2x2 multiplayer going. $25 for the chance to have one experienced and one newbie player per team? And a chance to play through all the maps? Very tempting.

Besides the obvious fact that Empire is already a failure in some respects, the absolute worst thing for the TW series is for this approach of releasing broken and incomplete games then patching them with buyer's money to be successful. I think companies learn more from mistakes than they do from successes. Hopefully one thing that might be learned is for Creative Assembly to concentrate more on customer quality and satisfaction.

If you want analogies to this look at extremely successful companies like SSI, Micropose, and others that drifted away from their customer base and are no longer in business.

And how exactly does this generic post proves CA is ditching ETW?

If you hate this thing so much, why are you spending your time posting here after 3 months? Don't you think it would be better to spend your time doing something you enjoy?

Please. This is a stupid comment, quite frankly. Steam regularly puts products at discounted prices on weekends. Its smart marketing (called "price discrimination" in economics; some people are only willing to pay $25, so this means more people will buy the game, albeit at the lower price, and give Steam, Sega, and CA more profit). And AFAIK, Steam is in charge of these discounts, not the developers of the game. This has nothing to do with support. Valve regularly discounts their own products, including Team Fortress 2, to attract more players (and TF2 is a very well supported game). In fact, if more people buy the game, that will give the guys at CA more incentive to support the game, as no one will support ETW if they don't make money off of it. Remember, game design is their job, not a hobby.

Then I'll never have a finished product and may as well chuk the game.

CA isn't "dumping" their game...they saw the amazing success in sales from L4D's 50% off weekends and are following suite. L4D sold more in one of those weekends than they did at launch!
