    Default Dwarven archers?

Hmm... seems my last thread vanished (if it was deleted, please pm me so i can know why )

ok, so in the hobbit, the dwarves use bows on a couple of occations... and they dont seem too unfamiliar with them...
and in the description of dwarven crossbowmen it states that dwarves are no strangers to the bow and arrow.

so why are there no dwarven bowmen...
i mean, sure, they wouldnt be the best bowmen ever, but they would fill a gap in the dwarven unitroster at least...

This was discussed before the roster was made, i think....and i also think, dawrves with bows would look weired
And if i am right, they never used them in battles, they were only used by few for some special situations... (i think would make more sence, to give them another crossbow unit)

Sure they have, IMO crossbows are OK for them, as 1. they are very good engineers and crossbow is stronger than normal bows are (normally, pls don't refer to elven bows), 2. crossbow is easier to be used in the caverns, as you have to shoot with a bow a bit up, but you can shoot with the crossbow in a straight line, 3. as they are short in height, their normal bows would be short also and range should be ridiculous.

Yes also good point, there bows ould be really bad, and if you give them longbows, would be ridicolous - that would almost be balistas then....^^ (for them)

Well they need a long range missle unit before crossbowmen. Give them shortbows.

But shortbows don't have a long range...
    and also only little penetration

    longer than throwing axes...

look... if shortbows were "useless" in battle, we wouldnt have longbows... shortbows (and other composite bows, wich is what i think dwarves would use... considering their engineering skills) were used extensively by armies in the real world... sure, they were not the massive punch that the longbow, crossbow or even javelin was, but they were a great skirmish and disruption tool... wich is what they would be used as by dwarves too... besides... who needs longbow type penetration when firing at unarmored snagas?

take the OotMM for example... most of the goblins use javelins and hit-and-run tactics...
to not have ranged units (even with shortbows) when fighting them is just plain silly... dwarves would definately use bows... maby not in great numbers, but enough to make the goblins feel less secure just standing around pelting the slow moving dwarves with javelins.

as for them looking silly? come one... thats the weakest argument ever... dwarves look silly doing anything... theyre short and stubby (just dont tell them i said that)

I agree.... dwarves should get another range unit...... what about giving them another crossbow unit or a short-bow unit (kid's toy bows!) with the same range or bit further than crossbows......

It didn't vanish nor was it deleted, just moved to "future unit ideas": http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...48#post5392148

    Maybe I should've left a longer re-direct notification.
