Now I haven't actually played as Eriador but they have just invaded me when playing as Rohan and these are a few observations on them, this is around turn 60.
The unit stats seem to be rather confused, the Suburban Militia are armed solely with pitchforks and their description identifies them as peasants yet they have an attack of 8 and their defence is rather good, even being given a shield bonus when clearly they do not have one - this seemed to allow two units of them to defeat two units of Riddermark Axemen and my generals bodyguard unit in a straight fight - which is rather ridiculous....Also their bodyguard unit of Dunedain Knights seem hopelessly underpowered with an attack of 4?! Surely they would at be fairly decent? With those stats i could defeat them with the lowest kind of spearmen...
Also on the question of how they look. I realise that much hard work must have gone into skinning them but compared to some of the other beautifully crafted factions such as all the others they look rather poor in comparison, as if they came from Medieval I not II. Their colour scheme also seems odd, is there any reason to suggest that Tolkein intended them to be portrayed in bright and garish green with the Dunedain Knights carrying giant and bright yellow maces? Surely gray would be a more fitting colour to allude to the Grey Company?
They also seem to be able to support an unreasonable number of troops at once, when they decided to invade me they had four full stacks with more nearer their cities, for a fairly weak kingdom this seems quite odd with them posing more of a threat to me than Mordor...
Finally is there even any basis for Eriador to exist? From what I read in the books it seemed that the region was effectively ruled by no one, rather being a collection of small city-states; surely these would be ideally suited as rebel settlements instead?
This is not a criticism of the team, they have done a fantastic job of the game but merely a few questions I had on the topic.![]()
