    Default Invasions...

    Hi guys

Playing as Rohan right now, and for 3 times in a row now an invasion has been called upon Edoras.

I'm getting sick of it, and I don't stand a chance against so many enemies coming at once, so I simply abandon the city, and then retake it once someone has got it.

Anyways... my question is, is there any way the choice of the invasion can be made more random?!

sure there wpuld be. but why should it be changed? it is lorewise
quite correct, that sauron calls invasions on rohan.

i got around 6 invasions on edoras one one on Thranduils Halls.
after that (around turn 120) all bad factions were that weakened
that no further invasions followed (yet).

Because TATW mod is based in M2TW, and Sauron takes the role of the Pope, the coding dictates that Pope Sauron has to call an invasion/crusade against an enemy(different religion/culture) city.
Edoras is the equivalent of Jerusalem in M2TW.
Luckily, as far as I have managed to discover by reading other threads is that there isn't 2 games the same.
Sometimes you might have an invasion called on Edoras by turn 6, in other games it must be
turn 20 or 50, who knows? So its random in time, but certain that it will be called on Edoras at some point.
    So what can you do?
    Suggestions a plenty!
You can forfeit construction in Edoras from the beginning, being indefensible so early in the game. Concentrate your efforts and money in surrounding castles and cities.
Get at least 2 stacks: 1 to keep Isengard at bay, the other to weaken any invasion from the East.
Try to conquer early on the Bandit settlements to your west, to have somewhere to regroup in case things get difficult.

    Edoras = Antioch
    Minas Tirith = Jerusalem

In Vanilla, the Pope often leaves Jerusalem and calls a crusade for Antioch...

Honestly I've seen Rohan hold countless crusades WHILE decimating Isengard and even Rhun... other games Rohan has been smashed by the first invasion. This mod is great because it's so unpredictable and nothing ever plays out the same way.

Thanks for the replies - it's just a bit boring that Sauron always chooses the same place to invade - I always give it up and then just retake it.

I was hoping I could change the code to make a bit more random, but if that's not possible, I'll just have to wait till I'm a bit stronger

I have something else to ask...
I am playing Dwarwes and there is an invasion against Dale (city) and I am defending it because of alliance. So far I destroyed one army of Rhun and two of Mordor. There was Haradrim army approaching, but I blocked the bridge east of Dale city and they are waiting there. I blocked the bridge to the south of Dale just to delay any other possible enemy approach. I found these blocking tactics very useful and fun
But,The next turn three new enemy stacks appeared close to Dale (another Haradrim. Rhun and Orc of m.m.)
    Now, here are the questions:
    1. Trying to figure out how they managed to come so quickly around those bridges I noted invasion forces having very long range of movement. Does it stand for all invadingarmies or all evil units have so enormous range? It's about three times larger than mine.
    2. How long does Invasion last, as they seem to just keep coming? Unfortunately, I doubt I'll be able to defend Dale, as I have one stack ready (on that bridge) and Dale seems to have only half half of the stack garrisoned.
    Thank!

    Yes.

If Im not wrong, the invasion armies can be created 10 turns after invasion is called. After that there will be no new invasion armies still the existing ones you must destroy.

PS I think Dale is garnison scripted, so there will be full stack after its besieged.

    Thanks AE sir!

I can't understand your 1st answer... Do invading armies have larger range than normal ones?

Yes, they do, like crusader armies of vanilla.

I'm surprised about this. Why are invasions so rarely called on Minas Tirith? I've played a couple of games and never had it happen in any one of them.

minis tirith seems more logical yet they picked edoras for Jerusalem which is weird, but i have to ask as well when do they end? I was playing as Gondor and Rohan lost edoras to an invasion so i retook it(but didnt give it back) bout 10 turns later they call another invasion and before i know it full stacks from OOTMM, Rhun, Harad, Mordor, and Isengard all start attacking. through a long process i kill off the stacks one by one,but they keep coming. That was 10 turns ago and im about ready to abandon the city

    Minas Tirith = Jerusalem
    Edoras = Antioch.

The pope in vanilla usually calls for a crusade on the weakest defended of the two. In my games there's almost never a crusade for Jerusalem unless it's almost empty or I make the pope call it... It's almost always on Antioch...

Indeed I never got A invasion on Minas Tirith on 3 of my campains...
    I got Dale/Edoras/Dol Guldur after I took it from mordor/Black Gate/East Osgiliath.

its just all strategic. cuz in med2 antioch is a great starter city to make a invasion to jerusalem. and if u kill edoras, rohan wil try to retake it. and abondon every alliance for it.. so he cant help gondor.

Changing the invasion to occor at imladaris and thrainduls halls or say theshire would mix up the stale invasions and make them more random. even thou edoras and minas tirith are both good subjects for invasion take helms deep instead of edoras and if possible. make it so invasions can be called on imladaris(Rivendell)

    I love invasions!

For some reason when i was playing as Gondor they kept getting called on Minas Tirith, not Edoras. So i got like 4 chances to send out my men against hordes of orcs, and i mean even more than Sauron normally makes, it was ridiculous!

But when playing as Rohan, i did get kinda frustated, so just had a 15 unit group of Elite horsemen (Forget what type havn't played Rohan in a while), to just stay near edoras and dispatch any orcsies. The only real problem is when Rhun starts sending stacks! Thats some trouble right there!

But as an evil faction Invasions do little to help so far, you don;t get alot of mercenaries, and usually it jsut ends up focusing peoples attention, but the city usually gets take sin the end...

It's now 4 times in a row at Edoras... each time I just abandon the city and then retake it next turn - much easier. I hate invasions, doesn't fit well within this game imo
