    Default Imperial Reforms

    I'm sorry if this has been asked or this isn't the right place to ask but;

    Where exactly do I have to build the Army Barracks to trigger Imperial Reforms? Or is it the Army Barracks that I have to build. I know it gives you a list of places, but I have no idea where those are.

    Marian Reforms = Imperial Reforms.

    Thank you, I know Imperial Reforms are Marian Reforms but I must have missed that thread. I'm blind.

    Also, as I said I do know the names of the cities (I did read the thing) but I have no idea where those cities are on the map.

    Just out of interest, has anyone ever triggered the reforms at Byzantium? You'd have to get past Epirot, Greek Cities, Macedonia and potentially others to get to Byzantium, it seems unlikely that you would not have triggered in one of the cities on the Italian mainland first.

    Edit:
    OK, you don't have to go across land, you could make a seaborne invasion and take Byzantium that way, but you'd have to hold it long enough to get the Imperial Palace which would be tricky.

    That map is inaccurate. In game you should have an information building in every settlement. That building has the list of settlements which trigger the reforms.

    They do, that I know. I know the names of the places, but I had no idea where those cities physicially were on the campaign map.

    Thank you very much for the map Praefectus.

    I'll ask again, just out of interest, has anyone ever triggered the reforms by building the Imperial Palace in Byzantium?

    Yes, usually as soon as you manage to take it, as the AI tends to develop it fairly quickly. In fact somewhere around here there's a thread complaining about it.

    I suppose if one wasn't expecting it, taking Byzantium and then suddenly getting these reforms could be a bit of a shock. Why did you include Tarantum in that list of triggers by the way? I would have assumed that town would have been in the hands of rome long before Julis Ceaser became the first emperor.

    Or is it a sort of 'back door' thing? Say if you're having trouble holding on to patavium long enough, here's tarantum to help you along anyway.

    Usually Tarentum triggers the effect in my games, because I tend to take on Carthage and Eprios before the free people and Gauls in the North. Maybe during my next campaign I will try another approach... But I think the reason tarentum is there, is because it's one of the last cities to reach the highest level in the Italian peninsula (during my campaigns that is)

    Tarentum has always been more developed than Patavium in my campaigns so it always triggers the reforms - admittedly I haven't played so many times as to say it is absolutely the case but it is usually just behind Rome and Arretium (the one with the iron mines) or Capua in development so always triggers before Patavium or Mediolanum - but I can see now how Byzantium would be close as it always ends up being very developed by the AI if you were to take it.
