    Default Reliable SPQR

is it just me, or do we seem to be getting an aweful lot of people at the moment struggling to install SPQR.

now i'm not sure what can be done about it, but could it be a problem with new computer configurations, or maybe a problem with the installer?

Because i'm seeing SPQRs reputation as being one of the most reliable mods around as being somewhat false at the moment.

It came to my mind as well that there might be smth wrong with the installer, maybe might be worth to check it.

Na it is n' t the installer. It is because of vista and other stuff like playing other mods and forgetting to delete the rtw folder. Also some configuration related stuff i believe. I uploaded my SPQR version wish is on my hard drive the same one i used a couple of months ago to reinstall my SPQR verion when testing the units add - on. Same problems like always just different people.

Exactly the complaints are normal problems caused by mods, not installing correctly and VISTA. Seems the increase in problems is related to VISTA. Also some PCs are not up to specs to play SPQR.

Well I am running it in XP and only experiencing crash here n there after having the game run for too many hours and being too rushy in clicking or such. That just happens, always a sign to go to bed or such. Saving alot helps tho.

We have constant problems also, with players who have Vista. It is good advice NOT to install RTW into the 'Program Files' folder as RTW will by default, because Vista does some weird things with that folder trying to 'protect' things in it. The end result for some older applications and games is that they are 'protected' into not working. For example, Vista sees RTW as a 'protected application' when installed into the Program Files folder.....so if you try to install a mod, Vista will try to 'protect' the game from that modification by some kind of 'virtual installation' hockess-pokess which may be fine for other applications...but doesn't work with this game.

For those that have Vista problems , see this 2 links : after I installed Vista on my computer ( just for testing the OS ) I used both these 2 settings and everything worked just perfect - anyway until it started joking around with my torrent client , that was a problem when I went back to good-old Xp ( SP3) . Note: do not use these links if you don't know how to protect yourself from viruses/worms/spyware . Make sure you have at least a good firewall and a good antivirus ( I used on Vista AVG free edition , in fact I use AVG also on XP ) . Good luck and I hope it'll help a bit . Like dvk901 said , stop using the "program files" folder for installing games ... I think most of people around here have at least 2 partitions on theyr HDD , so use the other partition's space for your games - it's also a good idea for the scenario if your OS starts going mad and/or crashes : you'll have to make a clean installation in the end , but you'll still be able to play the game ( anyway , most of the games ) .

I have under this week installed SPQR about three times just for testing and every time it works like a charm both with main 7.0 installer and patch. Unit addon also goes smoth to install. Im using XP so everyone with XP shouldnt have a problem if they have installed it correct and have latest drivers for their hardware.

Just bought a new rig with bells and whistles. VISTA of course and NO problems installing, NOR any CTDs whatsoever. Of course I checked the hints and tips in this forum first but there was not much I adjusted ... just the resolution settings and not to install in programs folder. Think a separate VISTA guide would be a good idea.

Don't bother , people will still not use "search" or will be to "tired" to read all that thread so for them it'll be simpler just to post another stupid thread " Need help urgent !!!!!" ...when you look at what is posted, you'll notice that he didn't even bothered to post his OS , and after you asked him you'll realize he uses ...VISTA . I think that some people simply don't deserve to be helped , because their ignorance is way above some people good-will .

Hi, to everyone here I don't really know yet, I am just wondering if I can help Modding the SPQR to contribute myself for this team because I have been modding it with CS4, 3dMAX-7 & so on... I don't know how to make sprites yet.. though iam sure its not very hard. I find SPQR a very good Mod myself due to the works of all the triggers and lightings and AI and so on in the game. I have had ideas for SPQR to be more universal for campaigns because if more campaigns can be installed it makes more choices and it would be more fun for people to enjoy. I hope some one in the MOD team reads this... oh well, if sum1 reads this plz reply cuz i think i can put up alot of graphical enhancements for SPQR... CHEERS

there is no mod team for SPQR, it was made by LT_1956 and is a finshed product - LT has previously stated a disire to create campaigns for different factions, but has also said that he doesn't at the moment have the time

Thanks for letting me know... because I think SPQR has a huge chance ahead of other mods out there, that is why I asked

Seems to me alot of people dont install the mod into the RIGHT FOLDER(that was my problem), most of the time, and VISTA just really........., but most people get it after a while.

Running SPQR through a Rome install via Steam in Vista. No problems, save the odd CTD...but that's still less often than Vanilla.

Vista is an "idiot-proof" OS, to the point where it's also "smart-proof". Kinda irritating.

Also, I remember the days when any installer required you to find your directory fo a proper install. AKA Things like modding and installing etc were more manual. Now, with 75-90% of things you download acting like plug-n-play, it can be a bit of a challenge when the SPQR installer isn't a "fire-and-forget" kind of program. Human interface problem.
