    Default Roman Eagle

    Hello all,

First of all I want to tell you, how much I like your work. This is the first mod I have played, in which I havnt overrun the entire map by 200. Well its 222 in my first game, playing as macedonia but since I own only 27 cities so far I guess I wont make it

    Some oberservations though:

    1. Roman eagles for the AI.
Maybe the Ai shouldnt have them, or shouldnt give a dime for them. Roman AI conquered Apollonia in my game and immediatly declared war on me after. Of course I gathered an army and took the city away from them. In the process I have captured an eagle that went to Apollonia proper. As we all know the romans go for them like if it were free drinks and for now some 30 years the roman send at least one full stack army, since a while mostly consisting of mercenaries, across the landbridge each year, to meet a defending army in a most suitable defensive position. By now I have captured that many roman eagles, that they got handed out to apollonian farmers to be used as fenceposts, since they dont fit into the temple anymore. And roman expansion came to a complete halt.

maybe you find a way to forbid AI to pointlessly whack its economy against the biggest rock around, only because it looses an eagle?

    2. I was already close to send you a screenshot to show you the awesomeness of your work, depicting one ptolemaien naval invasion next to still greek Sparta, while there was in the same time a greek naval invasion happening on rhodes. But then both invasion armies didnt do anything of value for like 2 years. Then the ptolies captured sparta, but the greek only waited for a ptoly army to arrive in order to crush them for a year more.
Now I captured sparta and the ptolemaien are landing a laughable 3 or 4 units every year.

Maybe you find a way to actually let the AI use its invasion armies?

Otherwise the game is pure fun! Good work!

One question though: If i got more than one general in a citiy and i start training bodyguards, whose private army gets beefed up?

If you train bodyguards, a new general is spawned...

I don't think the Greece-Italy landbridge works as well as it should. Or at least, it works well for Epirus, but not so good for Rome.... The landbridge is the reason Rome keeps attacking you, not necessarily the captured eagles (although that doesn't help). And as for the AI not using naval invasions properly, its hardcoded into the AI. Look at ETW, they still haven't fixed it...

    *siff* hardcoded....

Thank you for the answer anyway. I just thought that with the eagle might be of influence, because romans would find a lot of easier prey in northern italy or on sicily. The greek still hold a city there and the gauls are pretty busy selling their skins to the germans and thracians. The latter hold a pretty impressive empire by now.

Perhaps you could block the AI by placing a fort on top of an island of the land-bridge... The silly AI sometimes thinks there is no path anymore there were forts are blocking things, so they try to find another way...

I've also had pretty good luck with putting a fleet in the right place.
