Captain America returns!

Ok so Marvel's big announcement was indeed Rogers is returning...in what form, whether he will actually take over the uniform again is unknown. Obviously non comic geeks wont care but for those of us who are geeks I really think Rogers return should be as something else other then Cap, aka a direct challenge for Osbourne for control and leave Bucky as Cap. Its been 60 years of stories, most about Rogers...at some point you do need to move on (TAKE THE HINT DC and leave Wayne dead!) since every facet of Roger's life has been explored. Let Rogers settle down with Sharon, let him come to grips with a) she shot him and b) they both lost their baby and have him ultimately take Osbourne's place as director of new SHIELD. After the near fascist reign of Stark and the morally bankrupt reign of Osbourne, who better to clean things up then Rogers.

Oh god not another comic book hero movie.

I loved Captain America. SUpposedly what's his face in the last Hulk movie was a preview to Cap and if you watch Iron man you can see in the background that Starsky has Cap's shield.

He may be talking about comic books as their discussion does apply to this sub forum.

This isn't a movie Danzig is speaking of, although there will be a Cap movie coming out 2011 or 2012 I believe in the big lead up to the Avengers movie.

I'm curious if they're going to work in the 1066 Rogers into the Marvel world. Although that story happened out of time, it was connected to the main stream story line and Rogers vanishes in the end with Fury. So, who knows.

I agree that they need to leave him out of the suit. But I don't think their going to do that. They'll probably have some long drawn out thing between him and Bucky that will culminate with Rogers back in the suit. But man, Rogers taking on Osborn would be freakin sweet. Cause you know Osborne's pedestal will be pulled out and hard at some point.

Yeah sorry not the movie talking about the comics, the movie has already set the stage as noted above by the frozen body in Hulk and the shield in Iron Man. That's why I said comic geeks would care while others might not or know Cap/Rogers was killed off 2 1/2 years ago after his arrest as part of Marvel cross over storyarc and now he is confirmed to be coming back by special anniversary issue today and interviews by Marvel. I thought they would announce the casting for the movie today as well, as to who will play him in the 2011 film but guess not.

Unless Bru has some major creative genius I cant phantom using 1066 Rogers makes the most logical sense, he is the alt version most like 616 Rogers. Problem is you know fans are going to want a Stark/Rogers face to face, they are going to want him to deal with Sharon and the baby and of course reunite with Bucky. None of these things would matter to 1066 so probably wont happen. Granted Marvel has been careful to not say WHICH Rogers is coming back so who knows.

Well dealing with Osbourne, Rogers makes the most logical sense...there is no one left in Marvel Universe who can tackle him. Stark is on the run, Reed is discredited in public eyes, no one knows (or cares) what Parker has to say and Banner recently tried to take over the planet. Only Rogers always remains above the fray. If Rogers calls out Osbourne you know people will listen, unlike Hawkeye's recent attempt. Of course there is the fact that Rogers is still technically a felon...I doubt his death changes that and Norman will leap on it all he can to try and bring him down.

Atleast we know how Dark Reign will ultimately end or who will bring it about...

Hehe chaos! Stark tried to force register all superheros, Rogers opposed it...everyone broke off into sides. Villians were given a second chance if they registered and became legal, superheros were ordered into 50 teams for each state. Rogers was arrested and shot on the steps of the courthouse by Sharon who was under the control of Red Skull atm and died. A "world" under Stark proved to be no paradise as Hulk came back pissed off and nearly destroyed the planet....then the Skrulls came. All making Stark look like the cause of the problem and now Norman Osbourne reformed (thanks to Stark opening up villians to be registered and reformed) "rules the world". Now Stark is on the run, worlds most wanted all the heros are in disarray and Osbourne has formed a "cabal" with Doom, Emma, Namor and Loki for control over the world

Rogers may be a felon, but he is highly respected and always was, even during the Civil War. So, I'd say he has some clout.

As for the 1066 one, I don't know, I'm probably wrong, but it would answer a lot of questions and since it is so out of time, remember, Rogers was not part of that time line, he came into it and doesn't remember how or why and Fury said he didn't belong. But, we'll see.

On one side though, I sort of wish they would just keep him dead. He makes such a great standard to live up to, as seen in Punisher and Captain America and most other titles, that bringing him back makes him human again. Unfortunately, I think the Marvel Universe right now is really good with having Roger's as a marter.

Ah ok i see what you mean, that 1066 Rogers was 616 since he WAS from outside the timestream...man forgot all about that. Would make sense but they would have to explain how he got there after his 'death' in 616...good idea though.

And I agree i think a dead Rogers means more to OTHER characters in Marvel but I think we all know there was no way he was gonna remain dead especially as his movie approached.

Oh man Kamos you've missed a lot if you haven't been reading for the past nearly 4 years.

It all really started in Avengers Disassemble and really kicked off in House of M. But you also missed the Civil War, Messiah Complex, Secret Invasion, which has all led up to Dark Reign and Messiah War. Lots going on and hard to explain. But for a quick status on where Marvel's at.

Captain America is dead (for now) Thor has returned, Spiderman is no longer married, Stark is on the run, Fury is on the run, the X-Men are living in San Fransisco and there are less than 200 mutants left alive, Bishop is traveling through time destroying the time line while hunting down Cable, the Avengers are split into two groups (both illegal), Dr. Strange is no longer the Sorcerer Supreme, and Norman Osborn is in charge of a revamped SHIELD which he has now named HAMMER as well as a new Avengers team which includes; Bullseye, Moonstone, Venom, and Wolverine's son to name a few.

That's just a bit but can get you going. I recommend you brush up with trade paperbacks

I've never been an avid comic book reader but I certainly try to keep up with major events in the Marvel Universe. It's always been fascinating reading about it all.

Possibly the gayest man ever.

Hopefully they will use the Captain America of the "Ultimate" universe, since he's more badass and fits into a movie better than the regular cap.

Depends, they are basically exact opposites in political ideology. Regular cap is quite liberal, Ult cap is a neo-con.

Ult cap is much stronger, faster, and tougher though.

Yea, they are very much the opposites of eachother, which is a nice twist in the comics, at least. I like the 616 cap more, as he is more "humane" than the ultimate one, but I do not think it would fit better in a movie, unless they mix the two caps togheter.

Well the movies thus far have borrowed from both mainstream 616 and Ultimate universe so Cap will probably be the same. I like "right wing" Cap America of Ultimates alot but Ill always be partial to the libertarian/moderate (not liberal as mentioned above ) 616 Cap. 616 Cap is do the right thing at all times but take into consideration its impact, Ultimate Cap is do the right thing no matter what.

I felt that Iron Man was very much Ultimate, with some slight "borrowing" from 616. It was an awesome movie.
I'd say that Ultimate Cap does whatever his government tells him to do, while 616 always strives to defend the ideal America, as the Civil War storyline proved.(Greatest thing I've ever read).
But yea, as I said earlier, Ultimate Cap is a badass. I think he even kills in the comics, which is rare.
