Default Southern Fiefdoms of Gondor (Idea)

I remember, while reading the LotR books, how much reference was given to the Fiefdoms of Gondor who arrived at the Battle of Minis Tirith and eventually made there way to the Black Gate. And I was thinking to myself, "How would there be a way to represent the somwhat feudal sociaty of Gondor?". Some people have suggested making a Dol Armoth faction (I disagree). So I thought of an idea!

    Fiefdoms Of Gondor

What if you were to make AOR units that could be recruited in some of these areas in Gondor (By Gondor) such as Dol Armoth, Lossnarch, Peligrir, etc... that would replace their default Gondorian conterparts in specific regions. Not completly statisticly would they replace them, this would just be a sub-mod meant for design and immersion...

The best part about this, you would not need to defile any of the devs units. You could jest do a quality reskin of Medival Vanilla units, and they would fit the part just fine. Then make it to where they follow their own banner, not just the default banner of Gondor... Here are some ideas:

    Dol Amroth
This Faction was amlost represented in the books as a seperate principality. They serve under the banner of the Ship and the Swan. They already have a couple of Elite AOR units. So a almost all default Gondorian units recruited here would be replaced by native units... For example

Proposed unit > Gondorian Comparison = Proposed MTW2 Vanilla Model Reskinned

Dol Amroth Men-At-Arms > Gondor Infantry = Seargant Spearmen
Dol Amroth Spearmen > Gondorian Speramen = Above Model
Dol Amroth Longbowmen > Gondorian Archers = Above Model
Dol Amroth Calvary > Gondorian Calvary = Feudal Knights
Dol Amroth Pier-Watchers > Gondor Militia = Updated Milita Spearmen (The ones covered in chainmail)
Dol Amroth Naval Archers > Gondor Archer Militia = Above Model
Dol Amroth Light Calvary > Gondor Militia Calvary = Mounted Seargants

My MTW2 Model suggestions are just ideas on my own part, if you have a better one in mind then use it

And to save time, I wont go into details on every AOR group. But I don't think the rest would not be as hard because it would still keep a primarily Gondorian force. I would mainly suggest also to change the banners of AOR units from Lossnarch and Pelagrir with the ones shown above. BTW, the list of banners shown is:

    Top: Dol Amroth
    Second: Ringlo Vale
    Center: Morthond
    Forth: Pelegrir
    Last: Lossnarch

I may come up with more ideas here soon, but anyways.......... What do you think ? Rep me if you like it ...

Credit for the Banners goes to Nertea from BFME and his Sothern Fiefdoms mod....

That sure is a nice idea, I'd like to see every part of Gondor represented on the battlefield, unique units and more banners

I like it, if I had enough research done and the banners/models or at least retexturing done I'd certainly include it in DAC

I like it, but Idon't think all default units should be replaced. Just a few would be fine.

I see the reasoning to replace most units. for example both lossarnach and pelagir should not have militia units.

Replacing all could work, presuming you had a lore-accurate replacement. Or semi-lore accurate anyways.

But you wouldn't have to replace the standard infantry, except for places where there is a proper standard infantry replacement, like pinnath gelin.

if there is a lore accurate one, why not? don't want to give Gondor TOO much strength

I'm not sugesting replacing ALL the gondorian units, quite the contrary. I believe the best way of explaining is this concept, during the medival days realms would normally be divided into the lands of the King (His Dememse), and the fiefdoms under his control. The King (Or Steward) of Gondor, would still have quite a large demense (Minis Tirith, Osgiliath, Cair Andros, Ithilian, and a few western territories). In this demense it would still be an all Gondor unit rostor. But in Fiefdoms (Dol Amroth, Lamadon, Pelegrir, Lossnarch, Ringlo Vale, Morthond, etc...), some default Gondorian units will be recuitable, if not any at all...

OR, why not give them their own alternative militia? Such as Pelagrir Spearmen, or Pelagrir Crossbows. Or for Lossnarch, give them, Footmen of Lossnarch (light units with Handaxes and Maces), or Hunters of Lossnarch. You see ? Give these lesser Fiefdoms, AOR units that basicly replace militia (Yet let them still recruiting Line-Units of Gondor), while Dol Amroth has it's own pratical replacement army (No default Gondor units)....

We want to do both. Depends on what unit we are making But now we have a problem with the lack of a modeler. So if you know one, please let him make contact with Jaguar from the unfinished tales mod

Even something as simple as using the Gondor militia as a base and simply changing the shield symbols would add a nice feeling.

Very interesting idea, if I find some motivation I will create units Dol Amroth, and Lossarnach (ideas are from Wlesmana mod). I also have Greenhill Riders, a simple retexture but can be freely used.

It´s a great idea! I´m looking forward to seeing more variation in Gondor´s units too

Do you plan to create regionals unit for every fief? IIRC there are quite a lot of them.

dont forget Harondor, the gondorian province under harad control, it had some particular unit, something like a gondor swordsman with javelins

dont know if this helps but gondor got new units and specific regions after the fall of mordor, places like harondor, nurn, rhovanion and eriador, and units like nurn warband (was a crap unit anyways), harondor sowrdsman, rhovanion cavalry, eriador rangers. im talking about this regions and units because this is already in part included in the game with ithilien being a specific zone with a specific unit not under gondorian control at campaign start

I think it was allowed to govern itself fully, like Harad and Rhun.
