Just saw the trailer for The Pacific (pushed back to 2010 instead of end of 2009) and man it looks good....obviously cant tell from trailer but looks like its going to be a wonderful companion to BoB. Wonder if Hanks will try tackling something else after this, Korean war maybe?

    Behold the new trailer:

So far it looks every bit as good as Band of Brothers, but that shouldn't be a surprise.

As you'd expect from Hanks/Spielberg it looks like its going to be a brilliant series. I wish we had the financial clout over here to produce a similar series on some aspect of British history.

We have'nt the money in Britain/Ireland. It would be like the Sharpe series, battles with about 50 men in them or those few fat re-enacters they use for every historical docudrama.

It will happen some day. Sharpe would kick arse if it was remade in the same class as BOB.

There's been a series about British history, what about Blackadder?

You know Im always suprised by that, I mean its clear BoB and Pacific wouldnt have been made without Spielberg and Hanks pushing for it...there are certainly British stars/producers with the clout to do the same. Yeah they might not have the pull to get 150+million to do the series but certainly enough to do justice to it. Always wondered why none of them do it, guess we are just lucky people like Hanks exist. Between these two and the fantastic NASA series he did, he really had his hand into paying tribute to those who deserve it.

As an american Id LOVE to see a similar series from pov side of things, people go WW2 has been done to death but there are still thousands of untold stories out there. Plus side looks like the series will pay alot of time for the up close and personal fighting the Pacific War entailed with the island hopping. Should be fantastic.

*Sigh* A common complaint of mine. When you consider how strong the British acting element was in BoB (even the 'lead' Winters) and how much clout British Directors have in Hollywood you'd think it would have been easier than most to get the greenlight from a network. In the UK only the BBC could pull it off but they're more interested in producing crap for idiots. A dramatisation of Ambrose's Pegasus Bridge would have been superb (though they might want to leave out the bit where a soldier accidently blows a hole in a maternity hospital!).

Yeah I just dont get it, I mean for christ sake if Vin Diesel can get someone to give him 100mil (think that is his budget) for Hannibal...something that unfortunately many of my fellow country men will go who then surely one of the many great british actors could get a budget for something that pays tribute to the achievements British soldiers on a more personal level like BoB and Pacific will do.

Hell does BBC produce anything of substances anymore? Even things compare to the terrific Adams miniseries seems to be a no go. Guess you guys really need a British HBO.

    The tudors doesnt suffice?

Technically not british per se however who cares between the distinction of the british empire, england, and the united kingdom.

Unless of course you are referring to following some unit of some sort through a war like band of brothers and easy company.

Well that is a good idea. It gives you an idea of what it was like to be part of the unit and lose friends.
