    Default RS2-Beta8-Updates

    Beta 8.0 is finally here.
Here is a list of how to install it and to acquire it.

    To install RS II 8.0

    1. Make sure you have a clean copy of Rome Total War, which must be patched to version 1.5 (or 1.6 for BI).
It must be clean to insure that any problems being caused are either Roma Surrectum II bugs,
    or those inherent in RTW.
This is one of the most important steps. Remember, it must be clean.
So don't install RS on a copy of RTW that has been edited by you or someone else.

    2. Direct the installer to your RTW directory, example: C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War

    3. Create the correct shortcut. You must have a Roma Surrectum shortcut on the desktop.

    4. Right-click on the shortcut and select Properties.

    5. At the end of the Target box, where the location of the program is in quotes, add -show_err after the program path.
So for instance, your Target line might read "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err -nm
Remember to include the space between ...RomeTW.exe" and -show err or else it wont work correctly.

    6. -show_err is the standard debugging switch implemented into RTW by CA,
and will give clues to many problems you may encounter. Some more that you may find useful but are:

    7. You must also set Autosave:false in preferences.txt.
    Location: example: C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\preferences\
If it isn't in there, add it at the bottom.

Now you can run your game. Happy Testing.

Remember, you must have -show_err in your target line. If you have any questions, please voice them.

    Just running an AI campaign.

Is there any way to get the game to show what units are present where?

    Initial thoughts:
    1) Great to see some Roman rebel units being recruited in Roman towns that rebel!!
    2) Rome expanding in historical directions - excellent!!!! = Macedonian wars and expansion into Spain first
    3) Carthage and Rome still locked in combat in 589 AUC
    4) Secleucids seem too powerful and wiped out Parthia at a very early stage - not sure whether this is economy, population or more adjustment to autoresolve needing to be made
    5) Have a weakened missile attack too much?
    6) Sparta don't seem to be doing much really
    7) Scythia wiped out early
    8) Central Europe / Gaul still looking good at 589AUC although a little short of stacks, I would suggest

Overall things are looking really encouraging.

    Some screenshots:

    Loads of Seleucids!

Macedonian stacks seem a bit horse heavy

Are you running these tests in normal RTW?

Crap - my student accommodation has one IP address, and apparently we've used up our limit for megaupload, so i'll have to download this when i get back to Cardiff tomorrow afternoon.

Sorry about that. I couldn't get to Filefront yesterday at all, and had a bunch of Internet problems on my PC. I got them fixed, but Filefront still refused to take any uploads.

that's fair enough - another good thing about me being in Cardiff is that all my Osprey books are there - they'll give me some inspiration for the unit descriptions.

I don't think I've ever seen Rome expand like that -- could it be we can get a historical expansion pattern?

Note that the Seleucids appear to be overpowered though...

sllooooooow download, should have it soon.

Yeah, I know....megaupload sucks. Maybe Apple can put it on his server for the beta testers.

The Roman expansion is, I'm afraid, forced. There are no open passes north thru which they can go. The only paths are east and west. I tried everything possible...even doing what you suggested Cherry about the denses forest and pixels next to each other checkerboard pattern...no go. They STILL found a way thru there. And really HATE seeing Rome expand straight up into Central Europe. It just looks so dumb. This way, they are forced into confilict with either the Free Greeks and Arverni west, or Macedon in the east.

I'm using a lousy 3g modem right now so I can't do that. Our internet will be back again the 22.

How's this for a second AI campaign - near historical Roman expansion or what? It really helps that they've got the towns in Spain and Macedonia because they do anything they can to get them back. Also the fact that the Alps are impenetrable helps. Sparta has somehow survived on.

I've done as Tone an AI Campaign with the Seleucids. They are not so overpowered but they got loads of money.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Well I hate the idea of being too heavy handed with geography, but if it's needed to keep Rome from heading north I guess it's worth it. It sure is good to see Rome focusing on Spain and the Balkans...

I enjoyed playing RS1.5 Seleucids because of the condition of the empire and the method of management required to keep the faction from going into freefall. Are we going for that again in 2.0, because they don't seem to be like this currently....

MT, this is a very early version following very extensive changes to the economy and buildings trees, so don't expect things to be right straight off. I'm sure that something similar is planned.
