Just got EU Rome and need some advice. What is a nice newb faction to start off with since there is my first paradox game and I want a nice easing into the genre?
Well i haven't played Rome but would i would recommend you to take a large factin with rich provinces, so in rome that would probably be cartage, Rome or somethig similar.
Don't do Carthage or Rome; they're republics. Try a nice, simple Despotic Monarchy. I humbly recommend Macedon.
Game of the Fates
Mod of the week on hold -- I've played nearly every RTW mod out there.
BOYCOTT THE USE OF SMILEYS!(Okay, just once)
Antiochos VII...last true scion of the Seleucid dynasty...rest in peace, son of Hellas.
I've returned--please forgive my long absence.
Carthage - no crazy revolt, no 100k barbarian horde, tonnes of money and colonies waiting for you, and no one bother you except Egypt.
EU: Rome
Srsly, Rome is IMHO the worst Paradox game ever made. Oh why didn't you ask us before?![]()
Or....just wait a couple of months for HoI3.
Come on, Rome isn't that bad...

Rome has better military system than EUIII - you never run out of money even create a Grand Army of 200k men.
But Rome's dipolmacy is disaster, same as political system.
Basically once you conquer certain amount of province everyone would start assassin your people, non stop; then if you punish those assassins those nations would just declare war on you (I have once got into war against Parthia - WTF Parthia is doing when Selecid was raping them??).
Is that why? I'd wondered why my 60-province Seleukid Imperium was losing family members every few months.

Rome of course, it's a military republic, and that makes ur faction stable and keep enough MP to launch wars.
BTW, i dont think EUR is a game fitting the history well, when i always find my huge army is destroyed by a relatively small army under the command of a foreign general who has only 1 or 2 military stars than my own genreal!!!!
Rome is military republic?? I thought Carthage is military republic and Rome is something else???
Either way, both act the same; you would see many generals with 0% loyalty yet never rebelled.
However, Carthage is easier to play because:
1. It is far away in Africa.
2. It has colonies nearby which can produce cavalry and heavy infantry (Rome has to invaded Gaul to get that).
3. It is stable.
4. A crazy barbarian horde with 300k show up on your door every 10 years.
5. Damned rich.
Let's be perfectly honest with ourselves. Being the worst Paradox game is hardly a bad thing in the big picture. Anyway, this advice is interesting as it's the only one I don't have, and I'm thinking of getting it until HoI3 is released.
