Default Some feeback and help request!

Hi there! First of all I have to say CONGRATULATIONS to the mod/modders of this. It is very very good, except for some things that I will quickly list here just for feedback, I'm not whining:

    1) Future regent: '...unless someone of the royal line takes his place'. I have never seen this happen, and when this 'future regent' actually, my royal line candidate didn't even get to be prince: the regent's son got this. We can't select our princes, right? Shouldn't this be fixed?

    2) Battle freeze (has happened me twice and when sallying forth from being sieged). I could never get over this two battles playing them, I had to autoresolve. Is there a fix/workaround?

    3) Rebels at the beginning: I said YES to everything except to 'Do you want TOTAL WAR?'. When I started with England I was like 'HUH? I'm completely surrounded by huge forces of high quality units rebels!'. First of all, I believe that if the rebels would decide to attack the player on the first turn, he would pretty much lose. Am I wrong? I mean they are MUCH MORE and MUCH BETTER! I consider myself a very good TW player, vanilla, third age and stainless steel have always been cakewalks for me, but maybe there are uber players I don't know about that consider this mod cakewalk as well. Anyway, I didn't lose, I think only because the rebels didn't attack me instantly and I had time to build a little army and drive them off. Later I conquered France, and the overall difficulty felt OK.

MAYBE, I'm just suggesting, maybe you could have this uber rebels be conformed of less powerful units. Southampton I believe has a full stack uber units army, this was just... I don't know, kind of annoying. It felt too artificial.

In one line, I just believe that at the beginning of the game the rebels are too strong.

    4) Cavalry maybe is a tad too strong? I've seen one knight, standing still, impaling three units with just one attack. I like the idea of having archers and lesser units slaughtered by a well placed charge, but sometimes they just feel too overwhelming. But as I have said, only a tad...

    5) No births. I have seen this on another thread. Is this a core game limitation or could this be modded? I just don't believe people don't get laid.

    6) I left a 16 year old new member in a city and he reached 'scholaris second year' only on his 24th birthday. Is this normal? Is there a bug in the education system?

    7) Campaign map CTD. When selecting something. Is there a fix/workaround?

    ---

I can't think of anything else, maybe later.

    Thanks!

Oh, finally... are the developers currently working on this mod?

Welcome to hell my friend. *Mohahahahahah...*

I feel your pain on this one.

Ofcoooourse dlvelopers are. DLVelopers do so in the darkness...... Every inch and scratch must be fine tuned. I am personally working on a mini-mod that enables Kingdoms intro video for Kingdoms factions I'll post it up tomorrow.
Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

By chance were there any AI controlled reinforcements? If there were this is a known "issue" and is created by the AI trying to give the reinforcements orders it cannot complete or something like that. What I've done in the past if you don't want to auto resolve is let both armies combine first THEN commence your hostilities.

    3) Rebels at the beginning: I said YES to everything except to 'Do you want TOTAL WAR?'. When I started with England I was like 'HUH? DLV is meant to be a challenge and while the rebel stacks maybe unrealistic and non historic they are there to slow you down. If you like England and want a late mid game challenge, let HRE build up save them for "last" take out the usual suspects first: Scottland, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, France, Flemish

    5) No births. I have seen this on another thread. Is this a core game limitation or could this be modded? I just don't believe people don't get laid.
This issue has bothered me since I played Rome Total War. I've finally figured things out which I'll share with you. The game adds up your generals/governors + your kids then compares that number to the total number of provinces you have. When the ratio is 1:1 the number of new kids, marriages offered to your bachelors and princesses, generals offered for adoption and whether or not a "captain" led battle can lead to "man of the hour" slows to a crawl. Parts of this equation are hard coded and cannot be changed. There are a couple things you can do however.

    1) Take more provinces
    2) You can give your generals/governors fertility or infertile traits to improve or decrease the likelihood of who you want having kids. I do this myself and I do not think its cheating since I cannot change the full equation and think the game designers created a flawed system. Especially when you consider people like me who do not ever take adoptions or man of the hour. Which are stop gap measures the designers put in to alleviate/supplement their poor birthing system in my opinion.

    6) I left a 16 year old new member in a city and he reached 'scholaris second year' only on his 24th birthday. Is this normal? Is there a bug in the education system?
In order for someone to start their "civilian education" there first must be a "scholarium" built in the town or a drill square in the castle if you want a "military education". Either types of education take 10 turns total. As England I'd suggest making either roads or farms first, then secondly making a scholarium so that its complete by the time John comes of age. After the scholarium is constructed back to making economic buildings.

    7) Campaign map CTD. When selecting something. Is there a fix/workaround?
I too suffer from this. I CTD clicking on settlements a lot, sometimes when I select a unit or agent as well. I don't think there is a "fix" per se. What I do is save often. I save at the begging of the turn and multiple times during it and then at the end of turn before I hit the "end turn" button.

I recommend you trying out some of the "minor mods" that are compatible with DLV from the thread of same name. Especially the BB 2.2 mod (Battlefield Balance)

    1 and 5, hardcoded.

2 and 4, try my minimod, maybe it will fix it.

    3, don't worry they're not that aggressive.

    6, sounds like a bug.

7, try deleting the .bin files in \dlv_ext\data\text

Yes we're still working on DLV

    Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for your answers! I have seen your thread on minimods Taiji, I will definately try it.

YES! There were reinforcements in the two battles I had the freezes.

I read about the scholarium here so I already had it, maybe it was just a bug.

Ok thanks everybody, I will play some more and maybe return with more feedback.

You might notice that this happens less if you set 'Unlimited men on battlefield' to off...

Also turn down your 'Buildings' Graphics settings in your video menu... Sounds like your rig might be 'choking' on the castle and town models.
