Horrible Stuttering and Crackling Sound
Title explains it mostly. I load up my game, Medieval 2 or Kingdoms (both patched all the way) and on the campaign map when I click a unit, or the advisor is talking, its all scrambled and crackling, as is the music at times. I saw one thread on this on the main boards but it was from 2008 and a dead end. What's going on?

Re: Horrible Stuttering and Crackling Sound
Is this your first time installing and playing the game?
Are your directx9 drivers up to date?
Are your sound drivers up to date?
Is your .Net framework up to date?
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling to make sure the install is good?

Re: Horrible Stuttering and Crackling Sound
I have installed this game on my computer before, and I believe I had the problem then, though I cannot recall.
Sound drivers up to date, directx is up to date, downloading the new .net framework now, but I don't see how that would affect it.
I have reinstalled the game twice.
I've also noticed that this appears video related to an extent. When I am in the ocean on the campaign map, I don't get the horrible noise, but the more and more I get inland with the castles and units the worse it gets.

Re: Horrible Stuttering and Crackling Sound
I have not had any problems with the Realtek drivers.
However, in the sound menu in options there are different options. There are the Miles 2d and 3d for generic purposes. There are also the Creative Labs options. Have you tried those. I think this was a confilft between the game and Soundblaster Audigy when the game was released but I don't remember the outcome.

Re: Horrible Stuttering and Crackling Sound
Just tried the only two sound options available to me, which is, the default, and the 2x one. The 3x and 4x are not supported. I am using an onboard soundcard.
These are the sound drivers I am using. http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us Asus motherboard 775 socket, P5K3 deluxe

Re: Horrible Stuttering and Crackling Sound
I just looked and your sound system should do better than mine. In fact your whole system ought to run better than mine.
If you installed those drivers after you installed the game, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the game for them to take effect. In some cases this has happened.
