Default British *police* in water boarding scandal...

Well since usually a rush to post these things (when they involve a particular country *cough*) figure I put this out there.

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle6466430.ece

The alarming part here is it was evidently done on crimes not involving terrorism but things like crimes involving weed Obviously its being investigated and shouldnt jump to too much of a conclusion...yet but pretty sad state of affairs.

I guess it's expected. It's what happens when certain "enhanced interrogation techniques" become portrayed as acceptable.

    The man. The .

That said, it seems the authorities are dealing with this in a proper way: Make sure it can't happen again, investigate what exactly happened, and possibly prosecute anyone who crossed the line.

I was under the impression SOCA, and not Scotland Yard, dealt with the drugs trade. Although I still can't see the sense in this, Scotland Yard are your average police, not special forces of any kind. I'm really curious to see how this pans out and why they did what they did, if they did.

I like how the article calls waterboarding a CIA technique, as though it invented the method that predates the CIA existance by hundreds of years.

But good for the police, I have long thought British people needed it, if for no other reason than to improve their hygiene.

Yeah, that's a bit silly. You can't go wrong with techniques perfected by Catholics.

Sorry to break the flood, but - correct me if mistaken - the British police has a long experience of torture (yes, I call it for what It is) with IRA militants and all who bother the Kingdom right? Same in France (with Algerians) and many eiuropean democracies btw.

Ah you have that system too? Like cops investigating their friends and collegues to see if any mistakes have been made?

Remember folks in the US water boarding is legal and I bet it is in the UK.

Not anymore thanks to Obama. Waterboarding is torture even if they invented PC terms to justify it.

I blame the US. If they weren't water boarding in the first place then Scotland Yard wouldn't know how to water board.
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

I predicted this to happen anyway. Allowing the use of such techniques on supposed terrorists will open the way to similar applications to suspected criminals in civil cases.

Done with National Service. NOT patriotic. MORE realist. Just gimme cash.

Seems they did'nt 'waterboard' the suspect CIA style, but used a more British form of abuse, sticking his head down the toilet. (They later flicked his bare arse with a wet towel)

A man has claimed his head was put down a toilet which was then repeatedly flushed during a drugs raid last year.
BBC crime correspondent Ben Ando said the allegations did not concern "waterboarding" techniques - previously used by the CIA to interrogate terrorism suspects - as some newspapers had earlier claimed.
