Why the hate for wealthy people?

Why do so many people have this intense hate for the rich, or even moderately wealthy people. On this forum I often see attacks on the rich, and even recently saw a post about how someone would be happy only when all the rich are dead.

Now the question is why? I think it must be envy. You will say no no no, these people didnt work hard and dont deserve it. Actually, most do, and the ones who got lucky seized opportunities to attain it. Are you telling me if you got lucky and had a chance to become rich you would not? As for those who are corrupt, well yeah thats a bad thing, but I would much rather have a scattered group of corrupt rich men across the country than a unified government full of corrupt rich men who taxed everything away.

Due to the lousy economic situation, many middle and lower class families probably take out their frustration on the wealthy due to them being in a bad mess and the people up the ladder doing so well. Like you i think its because of envy/jealousy.

sure we would all like to claim the work of thousands as our own, and claim full credit for the effort of many others, we would all love to sit around and act like our money somehow makes us better than the rest of the humans on earth rather than just lucky sods who knew the right other guys who already had alot of money.

Like you OP, I believe envy drives hatred for the more successful. That and the economic downturn, followed by a need for a convenient scapegoat.

I come from a middle class family and I have no problems with most rich people (Paris Hilton is an exception ).

There's a resentment towards the rich because they're viewed as self-serving and uncaring about a system that enhances poverty.

It's like an ocean liner, the poor in the bottom decks hating those above them because the crew are barely helpful and sometimes, in certain ocean liners (systems) the regulations and rules keep the poor in the bottom decks without opportunity for mobility upwards. The resentment comes from the perceived callousness of those in the above decks towards those below and to the system in general.

problem is that gov. punishes those who do create wealth not necessariy thos who have alrady created the wealth.

eg the tax for the middle upper class is so heavy in oz, they dont get the same tax breaks the lower classes and upper classes get

well i grew up considerably poor but am now quite well off and i still have a hatred towards the rich and i am perfectly happy to get rid of my wealth for the well being of others.

I don't hate all the rich, i understand that if you make a revolutionary idea or technology or service that is deemed as an improvement you deserve some wealth for it, what i hate is the people who become rich through family or using others as puppets and just bargaining their way to the top, lying, corrupting and bribing to make a living and then end up with so much power their mistakes often hurt the tens of millions of people in poverty due to their poor leadership and lack of Morales. Millions shouldn't suffer due to the stupidity and corruptness of the few. I think you should be paid for what you earn. Why should the man working his arse off in the factory all day barely have enough money to feed himself and his wife? while the man who monopolized smiley face t-shirts that do nothing for society makes millions

I disagree. Throughout my experiences i have seen quite the opposite. but i am not saying that some of them do not earn their money. I have seen plenty that have done that also. Just its too easy to get rich off of the pain and suffering of others. And that 70% of americas wealth is held by the top 3% of the population and 93% of its wealth by the top 10%....That i do not agree with and not one of them 'deserves' that much money, they sell oil guns and merchandise.. its not like they found the cure for cancer or invented a teleportation device. Im all for making money that you earned, but they don't need to earn that much money while others work 3x harder than they do and get 0.001% of what they do

Wealth comes from Human Exploitation. The real issue is how this necessary exploitation (a.k.a; work) is done, organized and what are the workflows, and is the economic system just (then it justifies "honest" wealth) or rotten by mispractices as in wall street?

Some do, some don't. Like everything else in life, this is no clear cut, white and black situation.
