Yeah I'll give you more info the more I test it, heres what I've noticed so far:
    1) Captain models look great and they are working properly. It didn't entirely fix the problem however, but I have now been able to isolate it. Its clear that both the captain AND the officers attached to the general bodyguard units were the problem... before any cavalry unit with a captain would sometimes cause a crash... now its just the bodyguard unit which means those officers weren't working correctly. I have removed the officers temporarily to figure out exactly which one is the problem, then I'll remove it for good. Either way, problem solved, just need the rest of the captains done. Oh yeah and they do stand out enough, both from other elites, and from the general. Good work.

    2) Early Mori naginata cavalry are perfect. In fact, personally I find they look better than the late naginata cavalry, and may end up using them as the late mori bodyguard. But for now I'll keep them in the order they are, as the current late Mori bodyguard has a heavier armored appearance.

    3) You may have given me the wrong takeda naginata cavalry skin, its the same as the original skin as far as I can tell. Try resending the two takeda naginata skins.

    4) Oda Sohei looks particularly good, I suggest using that pattern for the other sohei (color mainly on the sleeves while the main robe stays white). Mori sohei looks fine but I like the Oda one better. Uesugi sohei seems to be unchanged, try resending that skin along with the takeda naginata cav. Ikko-ikki look absolutely great, now its just a question of making all the mercenary units (many of which aren't done yet) share some common appearances.

Haha you didn't have to go to all that trouble just to give me +rep XD but thanks ^^

As for the guitar shops, heh you're really determined to get that price. Well good luck with that, just make sure you don't end up spending as much on travel expenses XP

1 — I have quite liked the Daimyō that had different officers with them (sword, spear and banner), and would have liked to see some of the foot units like that.

2 — It was probably the toughest one to make. Although I spent more time on colouring their captain.

3 — I currently have two Takeda Naginata cavalry skins: one original and one mine... I'll pack you both along with the new captains.

4 — Oda Sōhei just got a bit more tan robes, the Uesugi ones are whitened... The saffron top on Mōri is to distinguish their elite monks from the regular units of the other clans... Also, check the Uesugi ones, they had separate descriptions, were very cheap, yet weak. Are they now the same as other non-elites?

5 — Can you write up the list of required new rebel skins again?

And last, but not the least... The city where I live (Odessa) should have the best selection of instruments after our capital — and the prices in Kiev are even more exagerrated, so I won't need to spend anything on travel; as to the other countries — our customs would even out the price. There are a lot of tourists here now (including the bunch of the people from less civilised parts of ex-USSR, that come here for shopping), so I'll probably just wait for September or October for the value to drop... I'll also use what remains of the Summer to nag the guys at the shops a bit, since their prices seem to be tailored depending on the customer, having huge dollar signs in their eyes when they speak them (i.e. they steal too much extras from the shop for themselves). I can also try to abuse the rivalry between the shops... In the end, something should work.

    Is your brother getting better?

Yeahhhh... I shoulda mentioned this a few days ago but I'm taking a short break from the modding work. Not because I'm tired of it, but because I have agreed to do a short project for some friends. Submitted the first part to him earlier today, hopefully will be done by the weekend.

As for my brother, he is well enough to be out and about again so he was instantly gone... not surprising knowing him. Hopefully he wont end up putting himself right back in the hospital though. mono's not something you usually get over in a couple weeks... can be months to a year in advanced cases. Anyhow thanks for asking, at the very least it means I don't have to spend time dealing with him for a while, which was getting exhausting in some ways. Don't get me wrong, me and my lil bro have been together and, dare I say, friends since we were little... but that doesn't mean we get along all, or even most of the time. So yeah I had no problem helping him out for a few weeks and I'm glad he's better... but I still don't condone his actions.

    Hello.
I am new to the discussion boards but not new to TW.
Firstly thank you very much for the heroic and brilliant effort in making the BoA mod. It is really, really impressive.
Secondly - I tried to download the specific fix for the Rebels-related bug, but the link seems to be broken. Does anyone have another location for the "rebels fix" ?
Again, thank you to everyone who has donated so much time to this mod. You have made something really fantastic here.

    @ rdec:

This pack should include the fix, along with several updates for the mod:

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=282715

    @ Hayami Kagemusha:

I was a bit ill for the last few days, should resume working on the textures soon... No ideas for the other captains yet; but rebels should be quick, just a colour swap — can you list all the required rebel units? If you gave them the captain, what model does he use?

    Ah right, sorry. Rebels use/need:
    Samurai to Katana
    Yari Samurai
    Samurai Foot Archers
    Ashigaru Teppo
    Yari Cavalry
    Tachi Cavalry
Early Cavalry Archers (Uses the current Cav Archer skin)
Sohei, but I am going to replace those with ikko ikki mercenaries later
Other mercs (any merc unit gets the merc skin regardless of the faction they belong to)
    Elite Katana (For rebel officer's)
    Standard Bearers
Hojo Daimyo (For both general and captain currently)

Basic color scheme for rebels should be lighter grey armor, red clothing, either purple or green trim, your call just be consistant.
Basic color scheme for mercs will be the same lighter grey armor, merc green clothing, red/brown trim.

Seems everyone is falling sick these days, sorry to hear it though. Hope you're better

Just got off the medicines, now will start to recover... Everyone is usually sick in July (or March), but I managed to hold off until the exact first day of August.

Want to get to a next release, so I'll be able to change things "on the way", in the campaign.

Well I post when things are going good, so I suppose I should also keep you updated when they aren't, or rather not going at all. I hope to get back to work late this week, but just too much going on atm to even think about sitting down and working on a script file. I'll admit I'm a little down atm, suddenly started thinking that once I finish this update this may be my last. There are still a lot of things I would like to change/add but life keeps getting in the way and I don't know how much more time I can devote to it.

Anyhow, regardless of how things go I will at least finish the current update, with only a few minor things still to address. Maybe August will get better late in the month... it is my favorite time of year afterall

Replace the word "script" with the word "texture", and it will be how I am feeling now... It's just too much work and not enough help and/or feedback. People do generally tire more from the work that goes without visible results, quickly being burned out... I suppose actually playing some games should set the brains straight.

Hilarious thing here... Jackson RR24, at $1100, or around $1200 with case (you can click on the link to see the prices on Google), is quite a decent purchase — it's got all the features I need "out-of-the-box", looks nice, and has Japanese craftsmanship to boot (compared to cheaper Chinese, Korean or Indonesian-made guitars). I thought I could save just a little bit more and get it, instead of the B.C. Rich I had in mind before, yet the thing is...

I notice the white beauty at the local shop and ask the sales guy there about the price... And he tells me (with a proud look) that, as it is in a "slightly used" (read: "not comletely ruined") state, it'll go for... $1700. Bingo! A used guitar half the price up! Not believing my ears, I check their website — and yeah, they got used $1100 axe priced at $1700. Honestly, I don't know — am I supposed to laugh, or to cry about it?

    P.S.

The other shops either do not deal with Jackson Guitars, or do not have any real stuff, only "beginner" buckets of bolts made of plywood somewhere in Honduras... If Rock is Dead elsewhere, here it has completely decayed.

The problem is not with life, but with idiots, who either want too much for not much, or agree to overpay. We have a major case of "Gibson" syndrome here — when guys buy $2000+ guitars just to show off the "Made in U.S.A." label on the heastock. I just thought charging extra $600 for a used (far from being vintage) instrument is too much, even for our shopkeepers... It's possibly someone selling his own axe, assuming an unbeatable position: since it's on a shelf he's got a reason not to play it, yet with such a steep price he will never sell it. A win-win (more like lose-lose) situation.

As to "modding skills": they are a myth. You just do what you can, then the "skills" start to develop... Very similar to "musical talent" or "good ear", which are actually the qualities that are developed during practice and trial-and-error, as opossed to magically appearing out-of-nowhere (or being present at the time of birth) as most people think.

Initially, I supposed that some physycal qualities actually give people the edge in what they do, like Shaquille O'Neal's height, Jimi Hendrix's finger length... Yet, even with the level of professional sports concerned (where every kilogram and centimeter makes a difference), physycal qualities do not guarantee a success — who will say that Shaq was better than Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan, despite being the larger one? By that logic, that Chinese guy (Googled him — name is Yao Ming) should be considered the best basketball player ever.

And the fingers — I was surprised to see little girls learning simple riffs at guitar faster than the dudes with huge palms... Because small fingers have better speed, agility, and, most importantly, make them strive more to do everything correctly. In fact, of the people I teached guitar to, the hardest one (after the super-insecure guy, that was already corrupted by bad teachers when I met him) had the biggest hands... Not to mention that the father of Heavy Metal, Tony Iommi, had two fingertips lost in a factory accident. Well, if that hasn't stopped him from becoming the most important figure in the world of Hard Rock (just name one thing that changed Rock music more than the advent of Metal), then what possibly can?

So, while the last thing about "talent" or "inherent skills", the physyque, is broken as almost useless, I can issue only one verdict: lazyness. When people ramble on about lack of skills with something, they can just be honest and say that they actually do not want to do it... Did I knew many things about the history of the Samurai, their swordmaking, armour, weapons, horsemanship, archery, sieges, the Ninja and the Sōhei before I began to make descriptions? No. Actually, I learned quite a lot during the process. Did I knew anything about alpha layers, icon making and game structure of M2TW when I started to mod it? No. Did any modder have "modding skills" before starting to change things around? No... Granted, there are skills that are more specialised, such as 3d-modeling or photoshopping, yet I never heard of a baby born "gifted" with a skill at computer graphic programs.

I suppose anyone who has the skills to write a post at the forum can, say, edit building and ship descriptions... Or maybe toy a bit with the descr_strat and add some agents on a map? There are also missed descriptions for Chinese, Korean and Mongol units, which, as the building descriptions, can be just copied-over from Shogun... Anyone who can play a game can do the bug-testing. Anyone who does the bug-testing can also test the balance. Anyone who plays around with RTW mods can install "Blue Lotus: Total War" and contact their team about borrowing a few more models from them. Anyone who can crop pictures in some graphic program can shift the rebel textures to more neutral colours. A lot of things to do. A lot of people watching. A lot of people downloading. Just me helping Hayami Kagemusha to actually finish anything... And the posts like "you do more and you do it faster, I will not help you and I have a reason not to" are the most demotivating of them all.

I am not speaking about you alone, it is about everyone and everywhere — people either find ways to do something, or search for reasons not to.

So — either say that you do not want even to try it, or do it. I have around 50 PM's between me and Kagemusha, which we exchanged before I had a first public post here. Why? Because being talking-yet-not-doing anything guy is not my style.

    P.S.

And it's not like you, people who read this but do not comment are any better... The lack of feedback is actually worse than the hope-depriving clear posts of "I will not help".

    P.P.S.

Gah well my recent disappearance was actually unrelated this time, as you may have noticed I haven't even been logging in. Thats because my computer got a nasty trojan that forced me to reformat the entire computer. So far I haven't lost any files, and saving my files and reformatting didn't take that long, its just taking a while reconnecting external harddrives, scanning to be sure they weren't infected as wel (But I'm fairly sure they weren't), and then getting each program running again one at a time. Of course NFL preseason has also begun so expect me be busy on weekend evening now too XP

Anyhow, I am feeling better about the scripting though, once I get everything running again I'll get back to working and I do feel like I can put out at least two more releases

Down to $1500, but the guys in the shop apparently never notice the real price.

Bought this for $750, only $50 on top of the US price:

B.C. Rich NT Beast... Came completely virginal, with tape on the screws and yet unpenetrated tremolo arm hole. A neck-through, 24 jumbo frets, original Floyd Rose bridge and all other goodies the RR24 had, except for the price tag and the pickups. The Beast has two of them, both being quite crappy — so will require an upgrade in the near future. Action is slightly higher and the neck profile is less slim, yet this is exactly the most comfortable guitar I ever played... As a bonus it has a tone control, while the Jackson only had a volume knob.

The wood is also different, but I figured that it is for the better (for me) — after playing several guitars with similar configuration yet different wood and comparing the sound.

After buying the guitar I am feeling much better, and have enough spirit to continue to work on the mod, especially since I am currently waiting for my amp to come back from the repair and kicking everyone's arse as Cammy in new Street Fighter while drinking wine.

    @ inquisitor:

If you want to help and don't know which text file to start editing, you can PM Hayami Kagemusha and ask about the current situation (as he hasn't updated me for a while), or you can simply enter the basic campaign building descriptions in the descr_buildings.txt... The factions need long descriptions for the campaign start as well, although I haven't managed to figure which file they are in yet.

    @ Hayami Kagemusha:

Good to see you up here! Which scripts were you working on?

As of tomorrow I will be back to work on this as usual. I recovered all the files now I need to make sure none of them got corrupted (during transfer, not by the virus), which could take a little bit. But beyond that it was very close to completetion when we stopped last, so assuming nothing goes wrong it should be soon. Personally I hate projects getting delayed, and though it seems like all my recent projects have been constantly delayed by unforseen events, I do try to take charge as much as possible.

One odd sidenote though, since reformatting my computer I have been unable to open up this forum on my web browser. Obviously I'm missing some flash add-on or other but I'm not sure which... the browser simply crashes when trying to open the page. Works fine on my roomie's work laptop though XD
