Default Dwarf Campaign Thwarted by Snagas

Playing a campaign as the Dwarfs and I am running into some problems in my attempt to push out the orcs from the Misty Mountains. Snagas are the bane of my existance, as my Dwarfs are unable to catch up to them and their skrimish ability is quiet annoying. They are also the main units in any OoTM army. I do have a couple of merc cavalry units but not to many and charging into a unit of Snagas causes too many casualties

Was hoping if anyone had any good tactics that they use with Dwarfs to counter Snagas. Any help or advise is greatly appreciated.

    catapults

    axethrowers & crossbowman work too

Or alternatively attack them in a way that forces them to break formation when skirmishing. That often leaves some Snagas behind. Those get attacked and the whole unit is forced to melee.

crossbowmen, and lots of them. your basic warriors are good enough infantry to handly anything coming at you in the first 50 turns, so work on supplementing them with crossbows asap.

If you use Real Combat the OoMM are pitifully easy.

If not, bring 10 units of crossbowmen with you and as many dale cavalry as you can get.

Or you could just open the descr_unit txt file in the Third Age folder and nerf their attack power yourself, if you don't want to use Real Combat.

I have the same problem, but it's not their attack I see as the problem (the OOtMM should be able to do some damage after all...) it is their skirmishing. This mean that after winning the actual battle you have to spend 10-15 minutes running around the map chasing down snagas that aren't even able to hurt you. they generally brake the second you manage to manouver them into position and make contact.

you could also nerf their speed

...or you could just adapt and stop them into the dirt, as all the OOTMM units suck until they get trolls.

Dale cavalry. Just recruit them whenever you have the money and send them to catch up with your campaigning armies. If you're fighting snagas regularly, you want to have at least 2/army.

use darth cavalry fix as well

it pretty much makes charges of cavalry work so cav. is more effective

You don't need cavalry, only shaping your army as a horseshoe:

Another thread said something about dwarfs on bears. With bows.

How cool would that be ... and how welcome, considering all the elvish and orcish skirmishing units.

(I know it's un-lorish ... but the thought of dwarfs on bears is just too cool to ignore!)

Un-lorish would be an understatement Besides, Dwarves don't skirmish, they *FIGHT*

Well, how about dogs then? Honga shows them as available for bandits, so they're in the mod.

I'm very ill-versed in the lore ... but dogs don't sound that ridiculous ... if the dwarfs keep cattle, then there's bound to be some shephers with dogs

Every time I attack an OOTMM army the snagas come up to me and then I charge them. I catch them and they die.

With cavalry the snaga rout quickly ,use those mercenaries.
