Activision shows the world why they deserve the "worst publisher" crown

I'm pretty sure most people remember the big news day when Blizzard and Activision merged together.
And I'm sure many people remember that Activision dropped alot of titles that they considered to be "non-profitable".
Among these was Double-Fine's(the studio behind the awesome Psychonauts) Brütal Legend, a heavy metal adventure featuring Jack Black.
The game was picked up by EA and the game has shaped up to be one of the most promising games this year and is set for release in october(or rocktober).
However Activision seem to have realised now that the game will be profitable and have decided to sue and wants to prevent the game from being released.

Really Activision, you were an huge a-hole even during the RTW days but their actions lately is just horrible.
They milk series like Guitar Hero down to the damn bones and drop anything that is remotely interesting.
So really Activision, Go

yourself.
Go and make Guitar Hero 15: Jonas Brothers and leave studios that actually wanna give gamers a fun and unique game alone and go and cry somewhere else because you were too stupid to drop a game that was pure gold.

I do agree. Seems like nowadays, EA's cleaning up their act, and Activision is the new EA.

EA will have to do a lot to clean up its act. They have been going downhill for a long time; Activision is just joining them. But Activision seems to have some better companies under its publishing rights, which makes them a bit better imo.

actually latey EA has cleaned up its act big, just look at Sims 3 looked like it was going to be another EA money plan but Sims 3 is actually really good and worth its money

100% agree, 100% loyal actvision supporter. I say they deserve every penny for anything that they can claim to.

EA can choke, ive never found a real good game from EA ever. Looking across my shelf of games i can proudly say that only Command and Conquer is the only new EA game i got and it was average, not too shabby but plenty of other better games such as sacred II which i just posted a review for.

Activision probably is one of the better publishers out there, at least according to the quality of their games. CAs game were even better when they were with them, though I bet that more or less has to do with CA than the publisher in this case.

Yeah Atari got a pretty bad track record even tho that's more due to them rushing out the games.

uggh, i have to go to work soon and i'll post the rest later.

Unless there is a publisher with major clout (firaxis) they ALWAYS rush a game.

They demanded that Bioware remove content from there games that was considered too "adult"

They forced Obsidian to rush KOTOR 2 AND NWN2 (plus expansions), leaving out much content and a very unfinished unpolished end game in KOTOR2.

A game with VERY high potential, ruined by being rushed. Actually killed the company. Every game that Troikia published under atari was meddled with. This TOEE game even had had an entire section of the game removed to keep it more mainstream.

Master of Orion 3 developers were fired and they hired a budget team, the game was not only rushed but it was utterly terrible.

Name any major publisher and I will gave several reasons why its better than Atari. Only high big name companies that Atari owns no IP of AND the devs have the clout to go anywhere they want will not be messed with. The whole reason Bioware wanted to get away from the DND licence is to get away from how terrible and meddling Atari is. Ever since getting the rights to publish DND IP exclusively every DND game, aside from those by bioware by sheer will of a good developer, has been bad. Also Biowares games even have not been of equal quality as with their previous publisher due to Atari dictating what they want the game to be. Atari is the king of childrens games and rushed, incomplete, garbage. They want everything they release to be dumbed down mass market garbage so any 8-30 year old can play regardless if they are a gamer or not or if the games target audience doesn't fit that grouping. If it doesn't fit they will handicap every potential part of the game that would exclude it from being mass market in the end resulting in an inferior product. Atari was in the red for a while, still might be, and they are for a reason. Now without bioware and the fact that Firaxis games are few and far between they have no decent games to make money on.

I have to go to work, I will post more reasons why Atari is by far the worst publisher in existence later.

What Atari sucks, did you know back when they were at the top of their power, they never allowed credits for the names of the developers(other then the game company). Where do you think Easter eggs come from, game developers trying to get their name out. one word ET the game that crashed the game industry

The only way you are going to get a good game is either it being made by a indie game developer, or the publishers don't mess with the release.

i will never forget buying temple of the elemental evil off atarti, and the amout of overpowered creatures and bugs. It made me laugh so much.

but i have encounted a few awsome atari games, compared to EA they are probally winning , 3 to 1.

Yes Infogrames is todays atari, they are the same company. Whats funny is that Atari has improved since it was Infogrames and they are STILL terrible.

I doubt that. AI has many good games even though I hate them I can see this. Plus EA has released countless classic games in the past.

Atari can't beat the following list, for modern titles:

Battlefield series (except for new dumbed down versions coming)
Command and Conquer
Crysis
Fight Night
Medal of Honor
Sims 3
I'm sure someone here could come up with more titles, I refuse to look up EAs list of games. I KNOW its better than Atari's however.

What does Atari have? Games made by Bioware or Firaxis? EA actually develops those games above, they own the companies plus EA has control of Bioware now anyways

I cringe having to defend EA but they are not the worst publisher. At least they also have a history of releasing decent games even though I refuse to buy anything from them ever again, though I will have to now that they control Bioware.

Also EA has been buying up developers and actually letting them do their own work, unlike Atari. I expect Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 to be Biowares best games since they were with interplay.
