1.5 does not work, on either of my 2 Vista compuers!

hi all.

the maybe happy owner of TOTAL WAR, I read just how so many people love the Roma Surrectum mod, I chose it over the "real Rome[?]" mod.

does not work!!

I installed the total war and it runs ok, after i patched the two patches. I followed into a battle, it Lives.

then I installed the latest 1.5c after paching 1.3 and 1.5 offical patches.

I can see the wonderful load screens and then I see the opening text box, but when I go any further, the game crashes.

then I tried to install, today, on my *other* older but more powerful vista machine, still crashes at the same place!


vista basic and home.
8500gt and 8800gt vid card.
onboard sound and x-fi gamer soundcard.

I even tried the "trick' that helped some people, to check the configuration file to make sure the "autosave" and that other name was set to "false".

I am curious if I made a fundamental mistake: that the installer asks me for the "program\atari\totalwar"
file and it will create it if i go further, but the game is in the "programs\Thecreativeasemblies[?]\total..."
files!! *am* i supposed to actually install into this empty file of "atari"?!

I tried the 1024 x 768 res.
I tried the compatibility mode for winxp!

no....no....does not work.

what stupid error am I making, apparently no one else seems to be having this issue or else the forums would be full of people asking.

maybe I will have to wait for 2.0!!

well i use a laptop with vista and i have no problems.

as long you patch RTW to 1.5 then install RS 1.5c to the RTW folder(always make a back up) then you wont have any problems unless its a particlary weird one.try it a few times one is bound to work. and my dicretory looks like this C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War - Copy - Copy - Copy (2)

Run in administrator mode. Works for me (iMac dual booted with ShitVista)

Install RTW, THEN patch to version 1.3 and then 1.5. (if you don't have Gold or a BI version patched to 1.6.)

THEN install RS1.5 into 'whatever directory you game is in'......and your game is IN whatever directory the 'RomeTW.exe' is in.

The installer is incapable of installing into, or asking for, an 'atari' directory as far as I know. It is set up to install to the default RTW directory....YOU have to point it to the correct directory if it's anywhere else.

An easy way to tell where to install Roma Surrectum is just to right click the Rome Total War icon on your desktop and choose 'properties'. Whatever is in the 'Target' line is where you should install RS1.5.

Also remember, UAC (user account control) will cause problems.

hi all....

I ended up uninstalling, as nothing did any good! None of the advice worked at all.

I wonder if the "megaupload" file site has a corrupted file, the filefront site does not have this anymore!

then the forums seemed to be down for a bit. maybe REALLY I need to wait for 2.0 to come out!

I am still "afraid" of that installer, if it was going to place the folder under "atari", then who knows what it would otherwise do, to my files, maybe place a few here and there, under Vista, so that the game will no longer work!

Just create a new folder called 'Roma_Surrectum'.......copy your whole RTW folder into it, and then install RS1.5 in that.
The filefront download is back up, BTW.

The new download locations were obviously part of the data that was lost in the server crash, I've reposted the new download locations, so all filefront links are working again.

I think that I have found the solution to my Problem.

I made a dedicated thread for my answer, as I wanted everyone to see this *if* they use the "creative Assemblies" version of the game with Vista and maybe even XP too!

Although I admire your investigative work here, and ferreting out your problem, please be aware that NONE of this is the problem of \or with, Roma Surrectum. Our installers will ASSUME you set your game up correctly, and that your game does in fact WORK correctly. IF, as you say, the CA-RTW Patch 1.3 never installed correctly, then your RTW install was NOT installed correctly, and would work with NO mod you installed into it....mod foldered or otherwise. This is because the only valid RTW install is Patch 1.0 (the original game), patch 1.3, and then patch 1.5. This is the ONLY correct install sequence from the original RTW game.

Later versions of RTW (Gold, RTW-BI) would 'sometimes' upgrade RTW and BI to version 1.4, but even here, the correct install of these two is RTW version 1.5, and BI version 1.6. So the USER is responsible for seeing to it that his own RTW\BI installs are correct.

This is but another reason that I personally NEVER install anything into my original RTW\BI installs....they remain fresh and clean, and patched as they should be. I simply copy them to a new folder and install new mods into them. That way I never wreck RTW\BI with a bad mod install or whatever. I just delete the folder, create a new one, copy RTW into it, and start over. SOOOOOO many people trouble themselves with constant re-installs of RTW\BI because they don't do this, and another bunch trouble themselves with problems installing mods because they don't check to see if their RTW\BI installations even WORK or not. I have had cases where I installed RTW and patched it all correctly, and the whole dang thing was FUBAR!! Something got read wrong from the CD, or it was dirty, or Windows just decided: "Oh, that game doesn't need that file anyway..." Who knows...bad stuff happens on computers.

So my advice to anyone who has install rpoblems with RS (1.5) or RS2 in the future will be....'Make sure your game works in the first place before you install a mod into it'. And that doesn't mean it 'starts up' and gets you to the Menus....it means you can actually PLAY it.

I don't have Vista, so I can't really address issues with it.....but I do know that this mod works fine on it if RTW is installed correctly.

i've got the gold edition(srry, i just couldnt resist)..gold just comes in very handy when playing mods. and it was only 5 bucks for me..so why not get gold??

Gold Edition, the one I have, installs to The Creative Assembly in the Program Files, not Atari or Sega. You have to change the directory when you install the mod to C:\Program Files (x86)*\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War
*Your specific Hard Drive may not have the label (x86), therefore, just put it in Program Files.

with me it just installed itself to
C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War

then i made a folder:
C:\Program Files\TW MODS
and made diferent folders behind that for all kinds of mods and copied my RTW instalation to them and use those to instal mods..and not the original, thats the way to go
