Face it - virtually every single movie ever made that was based upon a computer game has been; quite frankly - rubbish.


So here's the deal - tell me this.... if you had almost limitless funding, and you could cast whoever you wanted in whichever role - what computer game would you like to adapt into a movie?

Answer the following:

* Which game would it be - and why?
* What changes (if any) would you make to the story of the game?
* Who would you get to direct it?
* Who would you get to play the leading roles?
* Who would do your soundtrack?

I'll go first!

* Which game would it be - and why?

Fallout! It seems very 'Mad Max' esque - and I loved Mad Max 2 - I really think the idea of someone emerging from a vault to enter a desolate wasteland that was ravaged by global nuclear war is great - and could really work as a movie. You've got the typical 'fish out of water' situation of a vault dweller exploring this strange new world - and the potential not only for plenty of action (fights with raiders, mutants) but also the potential for some excellent characters and some brilliant acting - the situations the protagonist would find himself in would allow for this

* What changes (if any) would you make to the story of the game?

I'd try and keep it as faithful as possible to the original game - I'd also be quite keen to keep the humour of the first two games.

* Who would you get to direct it?

I'm really not 100% sure - I'd probably go with someone like Peter Jackson. I've liked his movies and I'd want this movie to have a wonderous, fantasy, epic sort of feel to it - as seen in LOTR

* Who would you get to play the leading roles?

There's only really one role that stands out - that's of course the vault dweller. I'd want someone young, someone who looks tough - but honestly, I'm not 100% sure who.

* Who would do your soundtrack?

Hans Zimmer - 100%. I'd want him to do something like he did for The Thin Red Line.

Eh.... the first Mortal Kombat movie wasn't too bad...

Mario movie is the best.

The Darkness, the game has a fantastic story which I think could be translated well into a movie format.

None, the story is great as it is.

Who would you get to direct it?

Well me
If not then well maybe Peter Jackson or Francis Ford Coppola.
Think they would understand the whole point of the game and capture the feeling of the game.

* Who would you get to play the leading roles?

I would say Kevin Spacey since he kinda looks like Jackie and is a great actor but Jackie is suppose to be 21 so I think he is too old.
Brandon Lee would be cool too if he was alive.

Who would do your soundtrack?

Peter Andersson
His music is very moody which I think would serve the movie well.

Mass Effect

Movie - Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (GRAW)

Story - Just get the guys doing a mission (expand on one of the in game ones.)

Cast - Christian Bale, Edward Norton, Mark Whalberg, Tom Sizemore.

Director - I don't really pay attention to actors, probably just go with the bold Spielberg.

Soundtrack - I honestly don't know.

A Brothers in Arms movie wouldn't be bad.

Fallout was also what I had in mind when I read the topic. However, when thinking about it I honestly don't think it would work, there's too much in there for a single movie to cover. I think it would be better as a 20+ episode hour long TV series.

Most things I'm going to address as a series.

* What changes (if any) would you make to the story of the game?

If it was a movie, I would have to cut out a whole lot of locations, like Vault 15, the Raiders, the Glow, most of the LA Boneyards, and I would have to combine the Military base and the Cathedral into a single climactic battle.

If it was a series, I wouldn't change much at all (although I would cut out some repetitive things, the character wouldn't be doing fetch and carry quests and such).

* Who would you get to direct it?

No idea, anyone but Uwe Boll. Michael Apted from Rome seems like a good

* Who would you get to play the leading roles?

Vault Dweller: Could really be anyone. Depends on what type of character you set for the series.
Ian: Scott Foley from The Unit (with long hair)
Tandi: Ellen Page (from Juno)
Tycho: Bruce Willis would be perfect, but way out of the price range for a series. Any tough looking older balding guy would work.
Gizmo: Jon Goodman (think Bible Salesman from O Brother)
Harold: CGI/costume - Voiced by original Harold (NOT FALLOUT 3 HAROLD)
Killian Darkwater: The guy is voiced by MacGuyver, he looks like MacGuyver, I think the choice is obvious...
The Overseer: Patrick Stewart - He would only have to do 3 episodes (First, after getting water chip, and last)

* Who would do your soundtrack?

Doesn't matter too much. Less is more in Fallout, bring back the quiet atmospheric music from the first 2 for the standard music, and most louder music should be from visible sources in the environment (singers, record players, etc), and should be 40's-50's style like in Fallout 3.



Addressing other things:

Tomb Raider wasn't terrible compared to other video game movies.

That doesn't count. It would just be a WW2 movie.

Half-life doesn't make any sense, especially half-life 2. Not sure it would make a good movie.

Silent Hill was terrible. Mind you I have never played any of the games. But I was bored and it was uninteresting.

You know what I hate, the word rubbish.

That being said.

Diablo. I want to see the Wanderer descend into hell to fight Diablo. And I want it to be dark, creepy and pure sadistic evil fun.

Half-Life

Proof of concept :


A Mass Effect movie (or Trilogy!) would be awesome. One of my favourite games of all time.

Some kind of Half-life or Call of Duty (which practically is a movie already) would be nice.

KOTOR, GTA, Halo 1-3, Assassins Creed 1-2 etc...

light sided ending with some elements of dark sided to show conflict and analysis of the nature of the force and the philosophy of yin/yang as emphasized by jolee bindo.

this is gonna be a different star wars film, more edgier and darker. with sex scenes.

Exactly.

One surely could make an amazingly exciting movie out of "The Sims" I'm sure.
Imagine a side-character jumps into the pool and then the ladder magically disappears and he drowns, whoa.
