Medival 2 won't launch

hey folks,

ok, I bought Medival 2 total war the other day, plopped the disc in my drive and started installing. The install seemed to go okay, even though it took quite a while. (close to an hour).

I clicked the icon on the desktop, and the launch screen comes up. I hit 'play' and the screen disappears and the little 'demo shield' blip appears in the middle of the screen for about 2 sec. then disappears. After this, nothing. The dvd drive spins for about 30 sec. then stops, the HD seems to be accessing something, then stops. Then the whole system gets laggy, but never shows anything besides the desktop. No error message or anything.

I tried un- then re-installing, then adding the patches; up to 1.2. Same results.

My specs from memory (I'm currently at work),Windows XP sp3, AMD 3400+ @ 2.8 ghz, 1gb ram, geforce 7600 (gs i think) 256mb. That's all I can remember at the moment, though I ran a system spec test off of some website, as well as comparing it with the box, and it seems I shouldn't have any troubles.

*edit* I also tried installing it on my wifes laptop with absolutely no problems, except laggy video, because she only has the integrated graphics. Otherwise it works fine, and proves the discs are ok.

Any help would be appreciated.

What other programs do you have installed on your harddrive?

City of Villains
Battlefield 1942, 2, and 2142
Stronghold 2
Guild wars
mechcommander desperate measures
Jedi Academy
Sins of a solar empire
Shogun, and medieval tw 1

Battlefield will stop it as in copy protection as in Securom. You're not the first and you won't be the last.

As far as Sega's concerned you can play one or the other but not both unless you want to do a dual boot.

Securom = Stronghold2, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3.

well, I uninstalled every single game from my system except, M2tw and Sins of a solar empire. uninstalled and reinstalled m2tw, ran a defrag, and still the same results.

I'm about to give up on this, it's simply ludicrous to go through this crap for a game. If the developers don't want me to use it, then I can certainly oblige them.

Sorry for the bad feelings. It's their game and their choice of copy protection. thread closed.

ok, I uninstalled and deleted anything to do with battlefield. tried to launch with the same results. under task manager, there was nothing listed in applications tab, but in processes there was ~e5.0001 and medieval2.exe.

~e5.001 is the copy protection temp file.
Medieval2.exe is the game.

You get that far, it should at least give you the opening screen. I don't see any other games that would do it. Anything like dvd-burning software? Anything this thing considers illegal like torrents?

No, the closest to a dvd burner I have is Win Media player.

Not really sure what torrents are....

also, I googled securom, and vanilla M2TW doesn't have it, only the kingdoms expansion. right?

I have the vanilla.

M2TW has Securom. The same version as Kingdoms.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Always a chance something got corrupted. Be sure to run a registry cleaner like ccleaner.

I uninstalled, cleaned the registry, reinstalled and no joy. same results: nothing, not even error messages.

One more thing.

I bought mine from half-price books, and it didn't come with a booklet, or cd-key, so I put in all 1's like I saw on another site. It let me install, and tries to run (at first), so would this be the issue preventing launch? I understood that you just couldn't play online with this key, but single would be fine.
