    Default Question about disasters.

I am in a Baktrian campaign and had an earthquake occur at 225 B.C. I looked at the files and didn't find where one had been set to always occur on that date. But, after four reloads and even a couple of restarts in between it still kept happening. I found the file for the disaters and changed the occurance value to zero but I figured it wouldn't affect my current game. Anyway, the question is what causes earthquakes to happen? I thought it was just always a certain chance of it happening but if thats the case then the odds of it happening over and over should be quite low. Am I missing something?
Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.

They are random, and the chance is set in the disasters file. You could try loading your saved game, doing something that has a random outcome (like trying to spy on someone), and then saving your game again. That will change the random seed which might get you a different outcome.

Alright. Appreciate it! I'll remember that next time. I was able to get enough movement points with my generals and cavalry to go from losing three generals and over 1600 soldiers down to just a recruited general and 1100 soldiers. It still sucks since I was getting ready to perhaps give the seluecids the death blow. Then again, they lost a general and most of his stack that included about 10 or more units of argyraspid phalangites so maybe it will even out.

I suppose. Thats one reason I chose to seek a way around it. Another is just the logic of the disaster itself. I dont understand how armies camped on flat ground can sustain such massive casualties when the cities in the area didn't sustain any nor have any structure damage. If an earthquake was bad enough to destroy huge armies like that in open terrain I would figure they would absolutely level cities and the structures within.

My favourite (in a sarcastic way) earthquake was in my one and only Roman campaign. I had just secured Italy and sent Decius Mus to capture Messana. He's sieging it with Rome's entire military behind him (full stack!), and an earthquake strikes. I lost my best general, my only army is reduced to 17 men in each unit (thats a lot of men), and the Republic was a little shaky after that.
