    Default Saba advice?

I have started a few short campaigns as Saba(vh,m) which have mostly went nowhere. I conquer the Arabian penninsula from the rebels, but then I am unsure what to do?

Saba has kind of a poor unit line-up and I am unsure how to use them to my best advantage. I dont know if I should stop after the arabian penninsula conquest and build up to get elite troops, or if I should do an early blitz. My attacks in the begining get bogged down because of the casulties I take fighting in battles. With reduced numbers its hard to hold onto conquests, espesially against superior enemies. If I wait, I can build up my economey, and build stronger units, but so can my enemies.

I am thinking of doing an early axemen rush against TSE in my next Saba campaign. I think that I will build 3 stacks of mostly axemen. 2 for attacking and one for reinforcing depleted units. I want my axemen to have armor and a temple experiance bonus before I send them into battle. I am still unsure if this will work or not.

If anyone else has strategies for Saba, please let me know. If there are some good ones to try I can report back on how well my campaign is going. Thanks

I found the best way to go after Arabia was to keep the peace with the Seleucids and take East Africa and Egypt. There's quite a lot of money to be made there, some good AoR's and it's easy to defend once you are finished. When you invade Egypt it's often best to start with Memphis, where the Pyramids are located.

How do I keep the peace with the SE? They always attack me with stacks at Omanna. I can hold them off with a large garrison, but keeping the peace would be much better. I have never really used diplomacy in TW games. What should I do to keep the peace?

What I usually do: Conquer Arabia westwards until Carna and eastwards until Ubar. Then move all forces to East Africa, and seize the EK cities there. Ptoly will have attacked you by then, so just move steadily up the coast of east africa, taking cities as you go... Oh, and abuse Camel Archers if you're having trouble.
I have been taking Omanna. Maybe I should give it up to the SE. I have taken the EK Nubian cities in some campaigns. PE let me have them while the SE attcked me at Ommana.

Saba's light and heavy cavalry are your best weapons. Two units of light cav, or one of heavy, can take down nearly any unit the Seleucids will throw at you. You have to use them well though, throw javelins at unprotected backs and shieldless sides. Whatever you do, don't try to go toe to toe with the Seleucids or Ptolomies, their infantry is far superior to yours.
I never tried hit and run tactics with Saba. PE and SE phalanxes were chewing up my infantry. I have never retreated from a battle before either. I think that I might have to engage the enemy, inflict as much damage as I can, and then retreat when I am out of ammo. Is there another way to defeat phalanxes and heavy infantry stacks with just calvary with the 2 hp system? I've done it alot in EXRM, but I didnt think that it would be possible in this mod.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I will wait for some more suggestions before I start the campaign.

TM had a Saba AAR a while back... You could look at that for tips.

I find Arabia pretty rich from mines and whatnot, so you shouldn't have too much of a problem with money once east africa south of Egypt is taken.

Expand your borders, a mod based on XGM 5.

hold phalanx troops besy with your infantry and charge behind them with your cavalry (don't chase missile troops if your infantry is loosing)

Vae victis: You can use the force diplomacy script to make peace. To keep the peace you need to avoid having a border with them - which you can't keep up forever.

Maybe you could try giving Omana to the Eastern Kingdoms, assuming that the EK is not already at war with the Seleucids, that is. This way, you gain a buffer zone against the Seleucids, and the EK develops the town for you. Just take it back by force or diplomacy when you want it back.

I've been fighting PE and SE stacks consisting of mostly infantry. With the 2hp system my camel archers and missle troops are nearly useless. I would like to use more of the special desert archers with spears that Saba has, but I need to build up my cities first. I think that I wil build up my cities and economy, next campaign, and try to stay neutral for as long as possible. When I start my next Saba campaign, I'll post here with my progress. I dont think that I will be starting one too soon though. Im gonna try the provencial campaigns first.
