Upgrade your computer.
Seriously, why would somebody convert all the unit models to lower poly when they can run it just fine. Do it yourself or get an upgrade... I run with graphics maxed up to 10000 men on field before I get ANY lag whatsoever...

that would be great for those of us who cannot afford new computers if it is possible.![]()
Yes, time for an upgrade.
Even the cheapest of modern gaming computers can run this game pretty good.
And you get a good computer for 600€
Mine is 2½ years old, and run this in high with shadows on low and unit scale on large.
AMD 64 4000+ 2,41GHz, GF7800GT 256mb, 2 GB DDR2 RAM.
Shadows, and AA with high resolution is stealing much of the FPS.

Right now my settings are on medium scale and low quality. As for getting a new computer, I'm only 15 and I don't get allowence or have a job (besides tutoring in Science)
Search here for a guide, concerning models:

If you never have worked with models, it can take long before you learn.
Every ingame model, at least detailed models, are built on these. To lower the polycount, you remove a lot
of these. If you are bad at it and never have worked with models before, your model will look edgy afterwards.

Yup, higher resolution & more colors = lower FPS.
So easy thing you also could do is making their textures lighter.
Convert texture file to .dds > open .dds with photoshop or G.I.M.P. > save with low quality > convert back to texture.
I think that would do the most job.
To be honest, if you are struggling to get a playable FPS with medium scale and low settings, you would be better off buying R:TW and play LOTR:TW. A low poly version would take ages to make, and would only appeal to a very small minority, especially since Third Age isn't that much more demanding than Vanilla.
Or get a job at Mcdonalds and save up your scratch. If you can't handle this game you sure are in trouble for anything new.I had a job at 14 a car by 16.If you want someting bad enough you can find a way.My daughter is 16 now and has had a job for 3 years now.Time to learn that life is not free and nice things cost money. If your parents can't help then get them to give you a permit to work.Schools out.Work time!!............You will find as you get older life may get harder.

I get low FPS when play Rhun because of their incredibly awesome, gold, detailed units. I created a thread about it a while back and KK said he'd look in to optimizing the units.

Those are some beautiful units!
As for the lower poly count, that would be an epic task and an epic waste of time. You can buy a 3 year old used desktop computer for dirt cheap that will run this game on high with no lag. make the unit sizes small if you are lagging, smaller battles are often the most fun and the AI usually has less pathing issues.
This works like a charm in settlement battles reducing the lag, if your playing on high settings. It reduces city textures from original 2048x2048 to 512x512 resolution, it helps to reduce lag on high texture setting (less HD access, faster loading). Awesome mod which works in TATW also. Thnx again for Gigantus for hinting about this mod, and for Ziher also for making this mod, becouse it has made my siege battles a lot more fun and faster
