Did the game work before you activated the special forces units?

Do you own the Special Forces Units edition or did you acquire the code elsewhere?

Click Start, run and type dxdiag

Now list what it says on the front page under system information.

Then go to the display tab and list out what it says under device.

I doubt it has anything to do with his computer specs, seeing that the game was working fine before. It is something simple probably.

Sometimes when people delete this folder:
    Code:
    C:\Users\YourNameHere\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly
the game starts working again. Just make sure to backup your saves from there if you have any. That folder is hidden by the way, use control panel > folder options > view tab > show hidden files & folders. I seriously doubt that this will fix it, but might as well try it.

I realise most of the time it doesn't, but I can't count the amount of times people say they can handle the game and have played it before when the problem usually turns out to be a very poor system.

I'm not saying the OP is lying or anything it's just something we should eliminate as a possibility. The last three threads I tried to help there crashes and problems were linked to specs.

It would be pretty lame if the thread went on three pages only to find out that he or she doesn't meet the recommended specs in the first place. It's why people should always list their specs when posting in this forum. Anyway, the fact he doesn't know how to find his specs or have any idea of what's in his computer has raised an eyebrow for me.

Most of the very inexperienced computer users won't have bought high end systems or even mediocre ones. They usually by laptops from high street retailers or desktops and most of these machines can't run games.

Tell you what, if I'm wrong I owe you a coke

A lot of people 'think' or 'know' that the computer they use is wonderful and can run anything. Sadly that's not always the case. ETW certainly appears to require a very good system and graphics card at the highest settings. I've got such a PC but it's got an overheating fault and has to be returned to the seller. I am now using a slightly older system (Dimension XPS 710 Core 2 Duo Processor E6700 (2.66GHz,1066FSB, 4MB cache), Memory Dual-Channel 4096MB [4x1024] 667MHz DDR2) and it cannot be used with Ultra settings - high are OK though.

    I play at 1920x1200 resolution.

    My 'not in use' PC;
    Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 (4 x 3.2 GHZ) 1600FSB - 12 MB
    Corsair 8GB PC3-10666C7 1333MHz (4x2GB) DDR3
    1 TB (1000 GB) SATA HDD UDMA 300 7200 32MB
    WD RAPTOR SATA 74GB UDMA 150 10000RPM 16MB
    XFX SKT-775 790i ULTRA + SLI 1600FSB
    Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional 7.1
    2 x Asus 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 GDDR3 (SLI Setup)
    TAGEN 1300W ULTRA PSU

I'm pretty sure that folder path is just for Windows Vista.
On XP it's usually something like this:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[profile name here]\Application Data\The Creative Assembly

One thing you could try to find it is to simply search for it. Go into My Computer and Users. From there on the top right of the window it should say Search Users, do a search for The Creative Assembly. If it does not show anything then you simply do not have it.

Default Removing the special forces edition

After i activated the special forces units code on steam, ETW stoped working. i made a thread on the forum but did not get any answer that helped. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=266647 .it might start again if i remove the thing on steam where it says that i have activated the special forces edition. So is there a way to remove the activation thing for special units?
