    Icon2 Change your walls

I have recently downloaded this game. I used to be a "Fourth Age" addict (http://www.thefourthage.org/home/), but this mod changed that. It's looking superb!

Although "The Fourth Age" is only for Rome: Total War, it's sometimes still usefull for improving this mod.
One thing I noticed: Gondors walls in "The Fourth Age" are made white, replacing the original grey. Also the roofs of the buildings are grey.

I understand it's a huge task to make new building for custom maps, if not impossible.
The things done in "The Fourth Age" are far simplier. Changing some colours of walls and houses would do a lot. If Gondors walls would be white, like Minas Tirith, you would have a far better Lotr-feeling in the battle map.

I don't know it's difficult to change some building colours. I guess it must be a piece of cake for the developpers, seeing the AWESOME unit designs they've created so far.

Do you think this is a good idea? Maybe some suggestions on changing which building in another colour...

Oh i heard they actually ARE trying custom settlements, so why spend time in changeing colours, when tey could use it may be for whole new lotr-ish settlements (and i think when they do such great thing they will also take care of the colour )
i really pray that it works or actually easier or better works

I know that they are trying to do that, but it seems to be very difficult, if not impossible. That's the reason of my suggestion here

    Ah ok
But i think this great team with great KK will surely change this, if they can't make custom settlements

It would make a nice addition to the general aesthetics of the mod, why not. Pro

i saw on another thread, forgotten which one soz , that they have figured out how to fully edit and customise buildings so i imagine that they are working on awesome looking settlements atm. i look forward to seeing the seven walled minas tirith, edoras and helm's deep!

But making slight changes like wall colour must not take anything like as long (for people as expert at modding as the TATW team ) and i agree that it does make a huge difference. Could a few small changes like that not be made in the mean time while custom settlements are being worked on? though i know the team might not want to get distracted by such small things at the moment.

Ive played Fourth Age too! Nice... Changing the colour of the walls involves editing buildings which the devs tho are trying is prooving problematic to do to say the least! We can but keep our fingers crossed and hope!

No seven wall minas tirith I'm afraid, the AI would have problems after its past the third wall.

At least this is what I have been told.

Minas Tirith could have 3 working levels and the other 4 could be just for show.

Your could do what they did in BFME then. The 3 outer walls and the rest of the city being inaccessible. Worked quite well i think.

well i think if they do to minas tirith then there should be 4 walls as it was the best fortress in middle earth

on the thing i think it impossible right now to change building colours as it is hardcoded and has yet to be cracked, but a wall retexture is not as hard and have been saying for awhile to do it.

No, building colours are not hardcoded, of course and I have already begun changing Gondor's walls and roofs.

However, modelling custom settlements is really tough and currently it is like a puzzle with 1 million pieces. With the current tools and possibilities, something like Minas Tirith would need many months to finish.
Nevertheless MT is high on my agenda, so I won't give up on this...

Talking about building textures, if i may make a suggestion... in for king or country mod by AlphaDelta, there are several retextured buildings and walls, that imo could fit very well to rohan and in general the northmen. If you can get permission to use them that´d mean a lot less work to do

Ok, I'm officially putting a stop to all of my campaigns, it seems this will be an entirely different game in a few months... So, see you after the summer, may it be glorious
