    Default MDB help plz

OK, I've read every thread I could find on the subject, a few clarifications please.

I am trying to edit in new skins with different names. Now as I understand it, if I should just be able to change the name of the texture in MDB to correspond to new skin, adding correct strings, etc.

Q: If I add a new skin that does not change into an UG, just renaming the skin to use, do I have to change the unit count?

Q: I am using MDB converted easy to read, it is Kingdoms 1.3, I have 1.5 installed, will that matter?

Q: when editing text, I read do not change with mouse, so cut and paste? Will notepad be OK?

Q Is there anything else I must change if I am only reassigning a skin? (ie; going from az_body_suit_jaguar.texture >> az_body_suit_aztec_jaguar.texture)

any tips on the matter would be appreciated

If you're wary of the mdb file, you could just replace the original texture with yours. If you have a mod folder set up, put your texture into the appropriate folder tree in unit_models (i.e., wherever the original is located like "_Units/EN_Lmail_Hmail/textures/") and if it has the same filename it will override the original.

    1. No, you wouldn't have to change the unit count. The unit count only gets changed if a whole model is added or deleted and isn't affected when skins are changed.
    2. Shouldn't think so.
    3. Notepad is fine. The key is to maintain all the spacing at the end of the lines, so after you edit a line be sure not to delete spaces.
    4. Make sure the source location of your new skin is correct, and that if you had add or delete characters on a line that you update the number at the beginning.

Notepad is fine for editing the modeldb. But I highly recommend getting a better text editor (I use Notepad2. Do a google search and you'll find it) because when you select text, it gives a character count in the status bar at the bottom of the screen...an invaluable aid when working with the modeldb.

@redxavier I can put the skins in no problem, what I am trying to do is mod skins for America's campaign witch uses all same skins, so I am making different skins for different factions, witch must be named differently. Thanks for answers on unit count, that's what I thought, but thought I'd confirm. When you say end of line, must there be a space at end? az_Body_suit_jaguar.text()<--space? Ya got sting count fine, getting damn black screen CTD. As for source location, if mdb is ok, should just show up as silver surfer.

@ Ceasar Clivus Thanks for info, will do.

Edit: ok, found my problem I think, MDB I loaded won't work.
