This has been on my mind for a while, as I've been living in Canada for about 7 years now (lived in the US before coming to Canada for 7years). I do not understand why in Canada an 80% and up considered an "A"? The rest of the world considers 90% and up an "A". I asked my teachers and they don't seem to know the answer either. My dad studied in the states and can't come to accept 80% an "A".
On top of that, I'm an 85 average at school, and believe in me there is only like 1-2 people in my classes that ever manage to pull a 90 in any subjects. Most classes in my school have 70-75% average in any given subject (and no my school is not one of those poor performing ones). I sometimes use that when arguing with my dad over this as he sees my avg as nothing more than a B once i step out of this country. I tell him so you're saying the majority of the school has a C average?
I'm guessing the education is "harder" that is why they brought it down to an 80% (I'm aware my guess sounds idiotic but i have no other guess). I think it is because a friend of mine that lived in Canada had an avg in the 80's and when he moved to Houston, Texas his avg suddenly went in the 90's and he told me its not like he was trying to the max. When i was in the states, in elementary where we get letter grades, I'd usually get a few A's and the rest B's. In Canada i got the same marks and as soon as they became percentage marks in my report card it was 80's and 70's, in the states that would be considered B's and C's. I also doubt i became stupid after i came here
So any answers to why its like this in Canada?
