    Default Particle Effects

    The game won't let me change these. Every time I change it to low or medium, the next time I check it is at high again, the game won't let me put it any lower than high. Any ideas? Thanks people.

    I get that alot also , seems CA hasnt truly fixed the bug with saving settings .

    Perhaps, if you change it to the desired setting then exit the game right after that and go into
    Code:
    C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts
    and set the preferences.empire_script to read only it should stop resetting itself.

    Note that even if you change settings in game they will automatically reset themselves back to what they were in the file that was set to read only. Uncheck the read only box if you want to edit it/let the game edit it.

    Cheers.

    It was the same for me except I was trying to set it to ultra but it would always change back to high. There's not a setting in the preferences.empire_script that I can see which relates to this. The way I solved this problem (after trial and error) is in my user.empire_script which is used for adding/removing mods.

    At the bottom of the list for my mods I added.... gfx_effects_quality 4;
    4 is ultra so I'm assuming you would need to use 1 for low and 2 for medium. Anyways it works and my particle effects always remains on ultra now.

    I tried adding it to the preferences.empire_script and saving it but it would always remove it. Not sure what the deal is but putting it my user script works.

    Edit\ If you add this to your user.empire_script (assuming you have one) then don't forget to save it before closing it out.

    Glad to help, and it took lots of errors trying to find something that worked... I typed in so many variations before finding the right one.

    Guys, am I doing something wrong? I created the user.empire txt file in same directory as the preferences.empire is. I added only the line gfx_effects_quality 4; to the file, saved and still my particles are on high... any ideas?

    I have had the same issue when setting the graphics options myself. But, I noticed when I selected the highest default setting with the game (Ultra?) without manually changing anything else, the particle effects stay on Ultra. But, as soon as I manually change any of the settings, the particle effects drops back to high. Does anyone have any idea why this might be?

    Did anyone find a solution to this? I've created a separate user.empire_script.txt into the scripts folder and added "gfx_effects_quality 4;" but to no avail! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Update for anyone reading this with the same problem.

    Add:
    gfx_effects_quality 4;
    To the bottom of:
    preferences.empire_script.txt
    And, at the top of the preferences.empire_script file, change "write_preferences_at_exit true", to "write_preferences_at_exit false"

    No need to create a separate script file. This also prevents the script from removing gfx_effects_quality every time you stop running the program. However, any new changes to your settings will not be saved; therefore, set "write_preferences" to false, or manually alter the script for updates.
