... but Left4Dead just came out not that long ago. You haven't even really polished up L4D or released enough additional content to justify the $49.99 of the game...

According to Eurogamer Microsoft claimed Left4Dead 2 is an Xbox 360-only game though, after which Valve has said it will come out for PC too.

Damn, hoping it would be out on the PS3
That's a bit odd, everyone I know of has stated that's it's both for 360 and PC...
Either way, what the heck, Valve, what on earth are you doing?
L4D ISN'T EVEN TEN MONTHS OLD.
It's like as if Valve went: "SUP DAWG, WE HEARD YOU LIKE LOUIS, SO WE PUT LOUIS IN YOUR LOUIS, SO YOU CAN GRAB PEELS WHILE YOU GRAB PEELS."

Looks like Valve is trying to join the list of companies that are willing to cut corners and stomp all over their fanbase just to make a few extra bucks.
First the TF2 Sniper/Spy update, now this, and the fact that there isn't any Half-Life 2 Episode 3 or Portal 2 being announced...
What on earth is going on?!
Well I will look at what they will add in first.
If it just a few new maps then forget it Valve, make Episode 3 instead.
However if it's a complete overhaul with new weapons and maps, gameplay features, characters etc then maybe.
I did rather see them work on an entirely new Half-Life game with a new engine instead of making another Episode.
Looks awesome.
That is all.

L4D with daylight and melee weapons.
Zombies in New Orleans, home of American voodoo. Who would have thought?
Chainsawing the bastards looks interesting. Though frying-panning them will be fun too.
My wishlist includes children zombies.

Is it just me or is the zombie-hand at the end of the video going "up yours" at us?
And here's the full Steam news update:
Sequel to Best-Selling Co-op Thriller Coming This Holiday
June 1, 2009 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2), the sequel to the best-selling and critically-acclaimed co-operative multiplayer thriller.
Coming exclusively to Xbox 360 and PC, L4D2 promises to set a new benchmark for co-operative action games and become one of 2009's marquee titles.
"A large part of how Left 4 Dead became 2008's top-selling new IP on Xbox 360 and the PC was the custom-tailored gameplay made possible by the AI Director," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "With the knowledge gained from creating the original, new technology, and a passionate team, L4D2 will set a new benchmark for cooperative action games."
Set for release on November 17, the title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaw, frying pan, axe, baseball bat, and more.
Introducing the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.
Featuring new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original with more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, and maps for Survival mode available at launch.
Supported by a $10+ million marketing campaign, Left 4 Dead has sold over 2.5 million retail copies since it was released in November of 2008. Left 4 Dead 2 is targeted for release on Xbox 360 and the PC on November 17, 2009, and will be launched worldwide with a multi-million dollar marketing campaign across TV, Outdoor, and Online.
"Left 4 Dead was backed by our most aggressive advertising campaign to date, and resulted in a top 5 showing on two platforms during holiday 2008," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. "Left 4 Dead 2 is a larger game and will be supported with even more consumer and retail advertising programs than the original."
Left 4 Dead 2 will be featured as the cover story on PC Gamer and Official Xbox Magazines this month.

wait, the map will change as well ?
I don't care what they show or promise. I'm not paying $50 again. I'm not paying ANY money again for another L4D.
Maybe Valve played Killing Floor and realised that's what their game should have been like.
The generally rushed and shoddy nature of L4D2 certainly points to that.
Say all you want about it being newly announced or in alpha or whatever; the game looks really cheap. I noticed so many things being re-used in the gameplay videos. I'm not even talking about sounds, I'm talking about entire buildings from the Death Toll campaign.
What dull, boring, with corny horrible voice overs and bad animation?Anyway Ill agree that much too soon for a sequel but I have so much fun with l4d Ill overlook this for the sequel, this time. I think this is a case where l4d was very much a toe in the water type of thing to see how it pans out and it was an outstanding success. For me though I much rather see either DLC reasonably priced or TF2 patches for the l4d but guess Valve is looking at the dollars to be made.
No Ep3 or Portal 2 announcement though I find troubling.
It seems that you can now set zombies on fire by loading your machine gun with "incendiary ammunition".

The white-trash cap-wearing hick character sounds like an hilarious stereotype. I think I'll play as him.
And here's the detailed preview from the rockpapershotgun website. There are a lot of details here.

god the first one sucked donkey balls, maybe, just maybe this one wont.![]()
It's sort of amusing that a lot of people who claimed that it was good that Left4Dead didn't have melee weapons such as the chainsaw are now saying it's good that Valve is adding them to a second game.
Anyway, I'll have to see about this - if they've really added a lot of content, and if this doesn't just seem like a modded version of the first game, I'll definitely at least try it.
