    Default Diplomacy problem

I recently made Syracuse by protectorate after crushing them as the romans untill they only had Malt left. Plan was to take some Carthaginian cities to them and so kinda fight a war in Africa by proxy....

Unfortunatly when i try and gift Thapsus (or any other city) to them they will not accept it either as a gift or a negotiation (even with Force Diplomacy). Also doesnt work when i try and gift the city to any other nation.

So my question is, is this just another manifestation of RTW endlessly irritating diplomatic system or could it be a bug????

It is the wonder of RTW diplomacy, I'm afraid. It is likely, however, that the factions you are trying to give it to aren't interested because of it's distance from them. I imagine Syracuse would be more than happy to have Syracuse back, however. Anyway, yeah, I've seen this before. In a campaign in RS1.5 I played a long time ago, I was an ally with Dacia. The Bosporans came down from their perch and took the Dacian capital. So, trying to be a good ally, I marched an army all the way over to the Dacian captial...took it back, and then tried to give it to the Dacians. Would they take it? Nooooo!. Idiots. I leveled the place and promptly snuffed out their remaining settlement. Ingrates.

Make sure you are going to menu > game options > reset advisor before starting diplomacy. You must then press the '?' in the top right corner to show the advisor, at which point you press the black 'show me how' button. Once this is done, you need to make your demand AND an offer, as sometimes the AI needs both to balance out the agreement, even with force diplomacy.

When giving cities away, I always offer the cities in exchange for map information or something.

If you offer the city and 50000-100000+ denari + map information they usually accept it. Atleast in my campaign they have never declined if I add suitable amount of ca$h and map information.

I just dont like it, if you have a allie for years, and if you have a province conquered which touchs they borders, they declare war... and mostly endless wars...

First of all, i try to hold my borders, but yesterday, i crushed the macedons with a heroic victory (1 Legion against 2 full stacks)... i lost two cohorts, but now, the border is save

I love this mod anyway... and i hope, RS2 will be released soon...

I don't know, some factions seem totally crazy in all my games mainly Macedon and Gaul who will not ever accept a peace treaty from me. But some others usually seem totally reasonable usually Perganum. Are some factions ai simply more aggressive than others????

And thanks Taelok, reseting the advisor made force diplomacy work fine

It may be because Macedon and Gaul are both set as 'hostile' or 'suspicious' in their 'core_attitude' towards the Romans....whereas Pergamon is by default 'neutral'.

Glad to hear it. Now just try to resist the temptation to send diplomats to every faction, demanding they give you all their territory

    Enjoy!
