Hard to say, I mean I think i was the only one who didn't like Empire total war as much as my inner fan boi wanted to.
Don't think Id trust CA because they would mess it up (EDIT** mechanics, and not to mention the extreme graphics and system req's that made it near impossible to play). For now, I leave my trust with the RSII team

I don't think you're the only one that was disappointed by the way Empire turned out, I played through 2-3 campaigns and came running back to Rome and M2. IMO theres more than enough RTS games that represent guns and guns battles that CA should stick to doing melee context games for as long as they're willing. I wouldn't even mind if they just rotated the games every 2 years with just new content or something like they did from medieval 1 to 2.
I thought they should revisit Rome to make RTW2 after MTW2. Hence my disappointment when Empires was released instead.
Boat battles in RTW2 would be the same concept with Empires (the only difference is instead of cannons you have arrows). In Empires, I love what they did with diplomacy, and the FOW (where you cannot see troop movement but you know when a city changes hands). Religion and culture was a big factor in Roman times. Both Greeks and Romans change the world by spreading their culture. In addition, many generals performed rituals and looked for omens before battle. The Spartans was notorious for this behavior. However, this was not touch in RTW. Another thing I have not seen in RTW is usurpers. Throughout Rome's history, many people try to steal the title of Emperor. In the game "Europa Universalis: Rome" I like the ideas they had with family members, where one can become a rival and if they get too much power they will betray you. The only problem with that game was that event happen too often and it became was annoying.
I think we can all agree that RS2 will be the apex, or near apex of RTW. I follwed E3 this year via ign looking for the announcment of a new TW but didn't find anything. I asume they haven't announced it yet, but does anyone know anything about this? And what game do you think they'll make next? . . . I'm hoping to go back in time . . . to Rome, please no modern warefare!!
Going down the Modern Warfare route would spell the end of CA's monstrously good Reputation, it just wouldn't be "right" to have all of nowadays countries fighting, there is NO way of knowing how strong/who should win, at least with time periods gone, we know who won, who was strongest, what military units and ideas worked best. With Modern, you gotta guess!
R2TW would be immense!

Either a remake of Shogun Total War or make a Total war game based on the eastern empires, using the M2TW:K engine.
Japan
China
Korea
India
etc

or even further back!, before the diadochi.
Wouldnt it be cool to start off like.. 480 BC fighting off the persian invasion, or leading a persian invasion yourself! and have rome growing into a power gradually and with events more and more diffrent factions come into the game as the time goes by.. with a map wich reaches... all the way to japan or something.. everything historicly accurate but at the same time allows for you to "create" your own history! and the game lasting to like.. 200 AD or something.. well I can only dream.. But what a beautiful dream it is.

That certianly would be a lot to cover in a game, but I would definately play that. I have often wondered about a greek-classical age TW . . .
. . but the early Roman to imperial time frame is just so diverse. I'm just glad this mod is being made![]()
Well by now (the 83753th update) it seems ETW slowly comes around lol
Although there aren't the naval battles as ETW,personally I am so happy, I think that RS2 is a mod simply perfect!![]()
From what I can tell RS 2.0 will be what RTW should have been, But thats just my opinion

Well, I agree that RTW could've been better 'out of the box'....but really, I have a good bit of respect for CA concerning the adaptability and mod-ability of this game. It is easy to work on in most areas. Most of the important stuff isn't hidden in hard to manipulate files or proprietary formats. They essentially included EVERYTHING with the game....unlike M2TW which omits (and therefore cripples) the ability to mod vegetation or buildings. Personally, I love the RTW\BI\ALEX series as the best overall TW games for a lot of reasons. They are none of them so 'Era Specific' so that you can't make a fantasy mod, or a mod for another time period either before or after the Roman Republican era. I seriously believe you could make an Empire Total War era mod very nicely with this engine...such as NTW2....and aside from the sea battles...have a fairly stable and rewarding game out of it. I know the diplomacy is retarded, and unit recruitment and limits on numbers are a pain....but from what I've seen in M2TW, and HEARD about Empire TW...is that such a big detraction? It just seems to me that the more complicated CA tried to make recruitment and diplomacy, the MORE retarded it got.
Anyway, CA would never...could never AFFORD to create a game like RS2. In fairness to them as a business...it would cost a bloody fortune to create the kinds of unit textures and models that our guys have done. You just don't create 'works of art' to sell a game. But many, many of the units in RS2 are just plain masterpieces.

Sounds like it would almost be a shame to grind those Greek, Ptolemaic, Barbarian etc hordes beneath the Legions of Rome, but I'm sure when it arrives, I'll manage to stop being dazzled just long enough to chop them into mincemeat and leave their bones ground to dust and fertiliser![]()
