Default SATA problem, i cant reinstall WinXP SP2

after the booting from cdrom, i press F6 to install the SATA driver from the floppy... but when i choose the correct SATA driver, a window tells me "impossible to find the drivers, no hard disks has been found etc.."...

but my hard disks are workin perfectly! i tried to change floppy or re-insert SATA drivers into a floppy and then remake the operation of SATA installation but nothing happened.. the same problem

    any help?

    My Mobo: Abit AN7
HArd Disk 1: MAxtor SATA 200 GIGA
HArd Disk 2: MAxtor SATA 500 GIGA

Your windows installation should automatically identify your HDD's and ask you which one you like to install xp on and which file system you would like to use..

You don't need to install the sata drivers, SCSI with a raid controller would need this.

Or am I missing your point?

I seem to remember I had a problem with RAID drivers in a Windows 2000 installation before which was solved simply by putting the drivers in (despite the fact I wasn't using a RAID setup, it insisted on having the drivers). I belive though it was solved in XP.

What OS are you using? If your trying to install Windows Xp Sp2 or earlier then yes you will need SATA drivers to be loaded from a floppy disk but if your installing XP Sp3 or Vista then you don't need to do this.

Just double check the SATA connections are securely inserted into the back of the drive and the motherboard. Also download the SATA drivers from Abit website and read any instructions they have on how to install the drivers.

Actually i have WinXP Pro SP3, but the SP3 has been installed lately (thru another one cd). On my Win Xp original cd, it's included SP2 into installation.

Bios did not recognize any hard disk btw. I downloaded the last SATA from Abit website but i still have the same problem

    I dont have SCSI

If the BIOS can't see it I don't see why Windows would. You sure it's properly connected and powered?

yes. It's connected and powered. Btw when i try to load SATA drivers from floppy:

" the file txtsetup.oem caused an error (4096) at the line 1747 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c. "

But the BIOS doesn't recognise either of them? If you only attach one of the two, does the BIOS recognise it? It just strikes me as odd that the BIOS doesn't recognise it. Every time i've had a Hard Drive problem when installing the OS, the BIOS still recognises the Hard Drive perfectly, so i'd be worried if it didn't.

If the BIOS can't see the hard drives then Windows won't be able to see the hard drives.

I suggest you unplug the power and SATA connections from both the hard drive and motherboard and plug them back in (try a different SATA header on the motherboard). Also when your in the BIOS set all the settings back to default/factory settings.
