Cannot edit the modeldb?

As the title suggests i can't edit the thing! Everytime i do the game starts reaches the first load page and then ctd's... Is there any program i need apart from notepad/wordpad/textedit? And its not that i saved it as battle_models.modeldb.txt which i did by mistake before... Any ideas?

On a different note is there a sprite generator?

The modeldb is probably the most problematic file (other than battle map buildings, obviously). What did you do, exactly? If you added a unit, don't forget to edit the counter.

Ah, i thought there might be a checksum or the like... how do you factor in new textures for old units? Or is there a thread explaining this?

Edit:
to clarify exactly what i did; I put in new textures for some of the eriador units because some of them use the same texture for different units e.g. militia.texture (or whatever its called) is used by 2 or three units.
