    Icon1 Best type of government

What do you think the best type of government is? You can choose from these or choose one that's not here.

For people who don't know what some of the governments are, here's the definitions:
    source-
    http://depts.alverno.edu/dgp/GEC/Typ...overnment.html

    1. Democracy
The word "democracy" literally means "rule by the people." In a democracy, the people govern.
    2. Republic
A literal democracy is impossible in a political system containing more than a few people. All "democracies" are really republics. In a republic, the people elect representatives to make and enforce laws.
    3. Monarchy
A monarchy consists of rule by a king or queen. Sometimes a king is called an "emperor," especially if there is a large empire, such as China before 1911. There are no large monarchies today. The United Kingdom, which has a queen, is really a republic because the queen has virtually no political power.
    4. Aristocracy
An aristocracy is rule by the aristocrats. Aristocrats are typically wealthy, educated people. Many monarchies have really been ruled by aristocrats. Today, typically, the term "aristocracy" is used negatively to accuse a republic of being dominated by rich people, such as saying, "The United States has become an aristocracy."
    5. Dictatorship
A dictatorship consists of rule by one person or a group of people. Very few dictators admit they are dictators; they almost always claim to be leaders of democracies. The dictator may be one person, such as Castro in Cuba or Hitler in Germany, or a group of people, such as the Communist Party in China.
    6. Democratic Republic
Usually, a "democratic republic" is not democratic and is not a republic. A government that officially calls itself a "democratic republic" is usually a dictatorship. Communist dictatorships have been especially prone to use this term. For example, the official name of North Vietnam was "The Democratic Republic of Vietnam." China uses a variant, "The People's Republic of China."

Apologies for some bad definitions- bad source

No the UK is a Constituational Monarchy. It is not a republic because republics elect their Heads of State and UK, Denmark and the other Consitutional Monarchies does not hold such elections.

And I think like the Danish Queen, she can block a law. Not very wise perhaps, but she can.

I voted Monarchy as a replacement for the non existant Constitutional Monarchy option.

No, that's a parliamentary system, not a constitutional monarchy. A republic is not necessarily congressional. A republic simply hasn't got a Monarch, a Constitutional Monarchy has a Monarch and a Parliament, an absolute monarchy the monarch has all power. You can have a congressional constitutional monarchy, or parliamentary republic (e.g Austria).

These 'types' are far more clear:

    Democracy
    -Non representative
    -Representative
    --Congressional
    --Non congressional (parliamentary)

    Partial Democracy
    -Non representative
    -Representative
    --Congressional
    --Non congressional (parliamentary)

    Unelected government

A democracy is where all government is chosen by the people. Really Britain and the constitutional monarchies fall into here, because their monarchs no longer hold any real power, or exercise it. Britain though would be a non congressional democracy, i.e parliamentary - our head of state (PM) becomes so because that party has the greatest number of seats. America is still a democracy, but a congressional one - the head of state is elected separately to the representatives. A non representative democracy has no representatives, i.e direct democracy, the country is run by referendums and anybody may propose a bill (e.g Switzerland).

A partial democracy is semi democratic, where unelected individuals (this could be monarchs, dictators an oligarchy e.t.c) still hold considerable power, though have far from absolute. For example, when Britain actually was a constitutional monarchy, pre 1900s. The democratic part can again be split into its different parts.

An unelected government (dictatorship/monarchy/oligarchy e.t.c) is when the government is comprised of unelected officials, for example China, Cuba, France in the early 1700s, e.t.c

    This.

And the British Queen is a lot more powerful than most would think

Was it Ben Franklin who once said a democracy is nothing more than 2 wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for lunch?

Ha ha, yes! I love Ben. People will naturally choose what is in their interest not what is necessary in the interest of the whole. Democracy cannot work.

If you have a fair and just leader it could even be absolutist dictatorship. However since I can't think of a single example of this, I have to say a democratic republic would be the most efficient.

i voted for democratic republic, even though the definition of it that has been given is extremely ignore and biased on what a Democratic republic really is. ( no offense towards OP since he stated this himself)

I personally believe their should be a representative for small groups of people (say 1000-10000) so it is a lot closer to a direct democracy than a representative one. And each representative is picked out of the masses and is a representative for 1 year. If a representative votes unjustly (against that of the will of those whom he his representing) is then punished(depending on the situation) and immediately taken out of office. A representative is supposed to represent the people not use the people to gain political power and take bribes like they do in democratic countries today. I still need to work out the kinks on my idea (basically how many representatives for the population and how to instate them etc)
    You look great today.

The best government is limited government.

I don't care if it's a king or direct demoracy, as long as it remains limited.

Of course, certain frameworks allow limited goverment to remain limited for a longer time.
The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State. - James Madison

I wanted to vote oligarchial dictatorship with strong elements of theocracy, but you appear to have forgotten to place it in your poll. Please correct this mistake.

There's been loads and loads of threads like this...

Anyway, an absolute monarchy ruled by a dynasty of eternally-benevolent monarchs would be the ideal government, but this government is impossible to achieve until the Second Coming
