They were designed for completely different games so how can you compare them in general?

This poll isn't fair, TATW is for a better engine, with bigger possibilities and much more recent than lotrtw, so these mods are incomparable... And the Dev team had stated (the older members already know it) that they don't want comparisons with other Tolkien mods for TW series...

TATW. It just seems more polished all-round, regardless of the better technology M2TW offers.

Only the fact that TA:TW is for M2:TW and LOTR:TW is for R:TW says that TA:TW is most likely to be better, because of. M2:TW has much better engine, graphics ,possibilities etc... Its quite not a fair poll.

For it's Graphical inferiorities Lord of the Ring Total War has features that Third Age Total War doesn't and maybe Can't have.

Like the Ability to Find and to Destroy the One Ring.
Custom Buildings, They've just created a full on Replica of Isengard and Barad Dur on the Battle Map.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Fellbeasts
Custom Characters (Which Third Age will Have Eventually)
    Immortal Generals
The Ability to unleash Sauron if the Ring is found and taken to Barad Dur.

QFT. Everyone who voted for TATW is just a homer who probably never even played LOTRTW's latest version. TATW is still in the works and has no where near as many immersive and cool features LOTRTW has.

Unique character units ie Legolas, Gandalf, etc
Crazy storyline scripts like if you play Free Peoples you can move Frodo+Sam to Rivendell and it triggers the fellowship etc
If it gets past a certain turn, mordor amasses a huge army (ready or not here I come)
    They're adding custom battle maps
    etcetcetc
Units are also more balanced/well thought out.

I prefer being dropped into ME at a certain point and then being able to decide the course of Elven or Gondorian history, rather than playing out the ring war, TATW is better for that, I just feel it's more flexible.

    On the other hand, this expanded map looks cool;

You obviously don't have much experience with the mod. What makes it great is that you can choose not to follow the LOTR storyline and rewrite history; you have the option to send Frodo to Rivendell and trigger the storyline events (and I think only Free Peoples campaign allows you to anyway).

As someone just coming from LotR:TW, I may be a little biased, but I felt more immersion in lotrtw than in TA, maybe it was the One Ring quest, or the factional differences, but I felt that the elves were much better in lotrtw and the Eldar units were really worth the time to get them. However TATW is much newer and hasn't had the time to develop the maturity that lotr has, I have no doubt that in another year this mod will at the very least equal it in gameplay, it already has far superior graphics and animations by virtue of the M2 engine (Archers are also less likely to shoot and kill nearby friendly troops if they are firing from behind a spear wall in TA, a fact that I am supremely grateful for).

Erm, yes I am aware of that. But my problem with Lotr-tw is that even when you don't call the fellowship in, the game still feels too focused around the specific background lord of the rings and the films. I feel tatw (feel, i'm not making a definitive statement of fact) has a more lore-ish air. tatw to me takes inspiration from tolkien's other works and the appendices of lotr. Maybe some people dislike that, just my preference. And given the fact that it's on the very early stages with just one release, tatw has clearly got a lot of potential and i'm certain we'll see many more excellent features to improve immersion.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying; "lotr-tw is crap and tatw is awesome lol1!1!!!!!11!!" lotr-tw is a great mod which I really enjoy, I just prefer tatw for reasons given.

What an unfair and pointless poll. Why posting this at the TATW forum? If you would have posted it at LOTR-TW, they would have won. You should post this on an objective forum, if you want fair results...

Besides, I don't think you can compare the two games since LOTR-TW is based on an older engine.

I agree with the above 2 posts, you can't really put a higher value on either mod.. They're both excellent Mods; So much love, sweat and Hard Work has been put in both that neither should be Upgraded/Downgraded.
