Default Update; June 15, 2009. Late Random campaign map CTD-fix:

Ok, I have this problem: Im sure some of you have noticed it yourself. It happends all the time on the campaign map. Well not all the time, but after about 35 -> 50 turns ingame. BTW: I have XP.

    EDIT: 15. June
The Commen Random campaign map CTD-fix:
This works, atleast to where I am now, 1226.

    1.) Disable Auto save:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Change...
    auto_save = 1
    ...into...
    auto_save = 0
...as seen in the picture below.

    2.) Start a new campaign.
3.) Make sure you don't Quick save. Only regular save.

The Vista Random campaign map CTD-fix:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    • Either mute the Voice, in the Sound Options, ingame.
    • Or as Ivanhoex said; it was a problem that could be fixed by allways deleting all String files(.BIN), in the text folder before starting the game:
(Also read more in this thread. A permamend sollution has been written in there.)
    \SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\DLV_ext\data\text
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Battle CTD fix.
If you are having repeatable CTD on the battlefield, either install this, or whait for 6.2.
Neither of the 2 are save compitable.

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

I'm getting campaign map ctd all the time. I thought it happens because of my vista but I see that you get the same with XP. It drives me crazy when I'm taking the city for 30 min. and get ctd right after switching to campaign map.

I have noticed that those ctds gets more often in years 1250 - 1300. I remember it from some campaigns I've played on earlier DLV releases. CTDs vanished almost completly when I past year 1300 (more or less).

Deleting strings.bin doesn't work for me neither.

Well, I managed to reach gunpowder (1270) twice - second time is right now with BYZ, and I play since DLV 4.0 .
So I base my statement above on only one game - sorry for not telling this at the first time.

It's a hassle but I would be interested to know if reinstalling everything helps. Have you tried the old save on a fresh install?

If it doesn't help then I guess the problem is in the savegame. I mean something the savegame is concerned with is causing the issue which might narrow it down...

But not for me, I know nothing about savegames... that's a cheater's type of knowledge

edit: btw I think I experienced the same problem with one of the 5.8 betas.

This is definitely always been a problem.. I save at a least every two turns now...And if I do that I always seem to have at least one recent save I can recover.

One thing I do know...Is using autosave at all seems to mess up your game big time....

I have now played a couple of turns, and I have not jet come to the point with the same kind of CTD. But mind you that Im still early on the campaign.

I have all of modern Turks + Baghdad + Cypros + Rohad. Its awsome, but the since the point system is broken keeps me from generating any points
For the first time I also mind my reputation + relation.

I'm playing Scotland and absolutely getting my ass kicked... I made a crazy move to take Rennes first so I could have good trade income... Took it but it bankrupted me and I lost all my gov points!

Tried to siege Everness and they kicked my ass the first time ( Thanks to BB 2.2)...Finally took it and I'm getting on the right track....Check out their starting position....Bad ass and one of the toughest!
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

FOUR REBEL STACKS and really tough troops to deal with.....I had nothing at this point...My army was in Remmes but they are really sucky anyway...Look at the starting English armies that you have to deal with. And that's just what they have up north...

If it's a battle CTD, then you must install T B B from mini mod, or whait until 6.2 comes out. (Not save compitable)

Also make sure to upload your save file (of the great battle) on www.Rapidshare.com

As I played England, I got loads of CTDs after 15-20 turns, 2 diffrent campaigns.

But as Norway, I only had 1 single CTD early on. It's a fantastic feeling, that I don't have to run the game up again, or even thing about it!

Soon, as this Norwegian campaign is done, I will delete all my files, then start as England again,. as see where it leads me.

Let me know if you find something out

Just thought I'd throw this out there, I delete my string files and everything is rainbows, until I moved my lithuanians to Palma, I now get ctd's every time I try and play out a siege with any of the surrounding area. I'm playing historical campaign. Any advice?
