Default Empire Total War: Special Forces Edition

In regards to a post that was locked because someone asked how they could get the Empires Special Forces module without having to pay 120$... which isn't a bad word, Sorry Legio.

If you want to get the Special Forces edition you need to open a ticket and they will refund the difference, which is 50$.

... Now think to yourself, whens the last time you saved someone 50$.

Tell them you want Special Forces Edition and want assurance that they will refund the standard edition.

Mind you, its going to cost you 20$ for 6 units and they will be adding more units for everybody in the standard edition.

Some countries are so far away that the shipping costs and level of sales means they pay through the nose for software. Its either pay it or have none.

The SF edition is one of the few things that make me discredit CA on principle. Gameplay AI problems and all that were always part of the TW series and I will no longer hold much against CA for that, but milking $25 for eight extra units? That's a crock of .

I will never buy into cash-cropping. This reminds me of when some of my friends used to pay people on e-bay for Diablo II characters. That's just crass.

And behold: I've observed that ranked games and official ladders do not allow them to be used, so that players who did not want to pay %150 normal price for the game would not be at a disadvantage. So, in effect, they are absent from multiplayer (for the most part; I still see them every now and then on unranked matches).

The decision to include SF units has also prevented me from ever enjoying an online naval battle, since the HMS Victory, like everything British in this game, has to be arbitrarily better than every other counterpart. Most naval battles I've played limited me to two or three ships. I was fine with that until I saw that everyone else just brought a spam of HMSV's. Fantastic; let's take skill out of that, too, because unbalanced land maps and mortar camping weren't enough.

Since many of the SF units are obscenely powerful, I look at them like I do at mortars- best kept unused. Is that a good fate for some cool units like the Orgon Cannon or the Ghoorkas? I don't think so. It's a shame they were wasted as special units.

If this is real it's okay. But discussing any other way to circumvent a purchase, etc. is not allowed.

Hmm.. If I own the DVD and want a refund to get SF, I don't need to send them back then since only the game key changes depending on game editions. Am I right?

I would presume the game key is different for each unit (game). In order to exchange the game you need to give back the game and the key.

the whole key thing is why i dont think its illegal to unlock your game...

if there are locked features on your disk that require a purchased key than cracking them open is illegal... but the standard version discs only have one key... and all special forces content is on them... you dont download anything extra and you dont need any additional keys. for them to say i cant open these features is absurd.. if they wanted to create 2 versions and charge more for the second then the other version should have different content on the disc... it doesnt... they are exact copies of each other... minus a few lines of code that locks parts of the disc if you dont have the rip off version...

if unlocking your standard version is illegal... so is the all faction mod.. there is no difference.

CA has stated their official stance and we have to stick by it. No discussion.

i disagree with ca's official stance, but i also understand the importance of twc maintaining a good working relationship with ca. i will say no more... for the record.. i do not have the illegal mod installed.. i would rather play without than steal from the devs..

its probably a bean counter's decision anyways... i cant imagine the people who put their heart into making this game would think that the special forces version was worth $20 when years of their work is priced at $50

I would buy it from steam for maybe 10 bucks if it came with maps or something, but that's it.

I couldn't care less about units.

120 comes from having paid 50$ for the standard game and having to pay $70 for the special forces... since its not offered as an upgrade...

capital showed a legal way you can get a refund for your original game purchase if you wanted the legal special forces..
    .....

question... i bought the standard game from gamestop.. i have the actual dvds.... on my dvd's is the special forces content.. so i own it ... if i want to alter my code that i already own its not illegal..that would be like saying darth mod is illegal... there is no extra content that you download, no key to purchase, everything is already on the disk... im not a lawyer.. but it seems ca/sega is on thin legal grounds for saying we cant unlock our own games. this could also be why they dont stop people from using unlocked games online (since they now have version control).. a potential lawsuit...

You have not paid for the right to use the 'copy' (legal jargon for information) of the special forces units, thus it would be illegal- a breech of copyright
