Default Help with Rome Unification Mod

Okay, I'm trying to find a Rome Unification Mod, but the one I actually managed to find, wouldn't work, so I read up how to do it myself. After several painful minutes of checking everyhting, I tried it out. I had managed to destroy all the Roman Factions, including mine at the start of the game, even though I never actually did anything to alter my Roman Faction.

So, I was wondering if any of you have a good Rome Unification Mod that can work, or you are willing to go through with me everything I have to change to get it right. Thanks. I know I suck!

So we know how to help you, you just want to play a game where there is only one faction that is Rome and not have three plus the senate right?

Yes, that's perfect. I have tried deleting every trace of the Other Roman factions besides the Julii from the game, but when I try and start the campaign as the Julii, it says I have been destroyed straight away, even though I don't change anything of the Julii.

I think the easiest thing to do would be to create your mod folder and simple move all the regular campaign stuff over to it.

    Beginners Guide to Modding

Then, go in and in only the descr_strat file remove reference to the senate, brutii, and scipii from the faction list.

Then, go down and cut and paste all the settlements from each of these factions into the appropriate area in the julii section.

Next, go up and simply ; out the whole sections for senate, brutii, and scipii. (I say do it this way so you can go back and replace them if you run into trouble.

Then go all the way to the bottom and remove the references to the factions you don't want from the faction relation areas.

That should be all it takes to get those three factions out and put all the Roman settlements into one faction. If you start it as a Provincial Campaign you wont have to worry about the senate or anything.

Also, you may be close. If the game is loading and simply saying you lost, then you probably did everything right except that you don't have a leader coded into the faction. Make sure you have at least one character with the leader tag in it.

    Code:
    character Cemendur, named character, leader, age 50, , x 105, y 71
Just had that happen last night, was editing the characters and forgot to put a leader in, and even though I had an heir, as soon as the game launched it said my faction was dead.

    Good luck

Ah! Perfection! I got it dead on, with the Julii being the only ones, no Faction Destroyed messages, and them having control of all of Italy and Sicily Romanus. All is well

While I'm here, I have two more quick questions.

    1. How do I change the name of a Faction?
    2. How do I change victory conditions?
Thanks for any help, and sorry for being a bother.

You change the names in Expanded.txt
which can be found at Rome - Total War\data\text
    The entries look like this

    {EMT_ROMAN_JULII_SPY} Roman (Julii) Spy

you only edit the names outside the brackets. You must change all entries or else they will still be called the Julii for that case.

So pretty much if you wanted it to say Roman Spy instead of Roman (Julii) spy you would change it like this and erase the Julii.

    {EMT_ROMAN_JULII_SPY} Roman Spy

you can change win conditions in descr_win_conditions which is in your Imperial Campaign folder.

It won't let me change anything for the Faction names. I don't know why, but thanks for the help anyway.

Do you have Vista? If so then its the Vista security thing (UAC) that is preventing you from saving the file. You need to turn UAC off or save the file to other place than program folder. Then copy the file and past it to correct destination in data folder.

I have changed the names of some of the factions.

    1. Roman Republic (Roman Julii Family)
    2. Kingdom of Macedonia
    3. Greek City States
    4. Ptolemaic Empire (Egypt)
    5. Gallic Tribes
    6. Carthaginian Empire
    7. Celtic Tribes (Britons)
    8. Iberian Tribes (Spain)

But when I save and open the game, none of the changes I have made have taken place, and I have changed all the city names and units for the factions, so that it should all match, but there is nothing.

I think you have to make the edits in expanded_bi.txt to get it to work. Don't think expanded.txt does anything after 1.3.
