wait while i go to inject my eyeballs with heroin
Damned, I stop at 1:07 and decide not to waste my time; can anyone watch it volunteerly and then kindly summary the whole thing for us??
By the way, I never understand why people like Gundam; I find it a strange idea to watch unflexible robots fighting each other in most silly way...
Courage, glory, honor, sorrow, tears, friendship, hatred, love, genocide, corruption, fascism vs democracy. Many things can be said to sum up why people love Gundam, it has a 30 year history, hundreds of episodes spaning over those 30 years, movies, books, comics, video games. It brought war in a real sence to the eyes of it's viewers in a way you would not find on any live action historical film since most avoid trying to alianate different cultures/nations. Gundam has it's own history, it's a fictional history, but it barrows a lot from real history when it comes to events. It does it an a good way, Gundam actually failed during it's first air on TV because it was too uncartoonish, atleast for what people know a cartoon at the time to be, it wasn't funny, it didn't have enough action. Gundam was the first cartoon show I ever saw that made me cry, I instently became a fan just because of that. It had enemies you couldn't hate, and allies you could hate. In fact some wonder if the Gundam pilot and his friends were really fighting on the good side, thats how gray the show was.
In spoiler is a nice video of the one that made me a fan. ^^ Song is beautiful, it's actually from the show. I didn't even care about anime until I saw this. Never even heard of the term before.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Interestingly when i first watched gundam at 8 years old i always find it too "adultish" for my taste and wish they get to the fighting pronto. Ironically, thats how sunrise is marketing the franchise nowadays.
But when a man grows up and begin to appreciate depth i started to like it.
Gundam is overrated. There I said it.

I only saw gundam wing! but I absolutely loved it!
it also made a friend of mine realise that
cartoon is not by default for little kidds, as he found the story and dialogue far too difficult for children
And even with that, Wing had terribly hokey dialogue and bad action.
The original Gundam, and its side-stories, was amazing; it was far less a mecha anime and more of a war drama with mecha in it. The best of the Gundam franchise, like SEED and Gundam 00 retain that ideal.
Yep I'm planning to watch the rest too
I have been a big gundam fan for a long time and must say that the franchise started sucking bad after they got out of the Universal century timeline.
0080: War in the pocket- is by far the best of all the series, it has the best characters, the best fight scenes and a pretty good story. If your going to watch only one gundam, then this should be it.
0083: the characters are pretty retarded like in all the series except for the one above. but the story is pretty good, lots of good twists and good fights.
8th MS team: another good series, just about ground war, but its a keeper
0079: the original, if you watch the movie which is cobbled together from the series, then its pretty good. Otherwise the original series is kinda long and has alot of stagnation, but its a good series none the less
Z gundam which came right after the original is kind of meh...never really finished the series, but I do intend to.
ZZ gundam: not sure if its been translated to english yet.
chars counter attack: it was ok, decent story bringing an end to the original characters.
Everything else is pretty much crap and should not even be given the gundam name. Anything to do with the alternate universe is a pile of garbage.
the biggest flaw of nearly all gundam series is that is had really bad characters and horrible dialogue. However I can not understand what the obsession is with Japanese anime having effeminate male leads that look as though they are 15. its like we have this 10 billion dollar machine....who can we find to pilot it....oooo that 12 year old right over there, I bet he is upto the task. If they would just adopt characters more in line with 0080 series, then gundam would be so much better.

Not necessarily. SEED was great, though I've heard SEED Destiny was bad. Gundam 00 was amazing, though.
Bad dialogue is a problem that comes with most anime, or hell most visual media period.the biggest flaw of nearly all gundam series is that is had really bad characters and horrible dialogue.
But I disagree that all Gundam series have bad characters. There are some well-developed ones, some not. But most shows are like that.
1. cuz most of them are 15 or thereabouts. However I can not understand what the obsession is with Japanese anime having effeminate male leads that look as though they are 15.
2. it attracts the female audience; and ultimately is what any show wants to do is broaden the audience while still keeping with the spirit of the series, so they can make the most money while still being what they are.
3. there are actually some anime/manga genres that are built from the ground up to have androgynous aesthetics throughout, especially with character designs. And most of these are shoujo- targeted specifically for female audiences.
bleh, don't defend their bad practices!
Girls watch Gundam?? That is strange...
I don't know, watching Gundam makes me thinking about FFVIII, which is not a good memory...
Perhaps I am influenced by Space Marine too deep...
^ speaking of above, i always wanted My way to do a gundam parody, too bad that didn't happen.
Also for 0083, the main character espacially Nina were retarded but you gotta give the show props for their slick MS design and combat scene. The fight between GP03D and Neue Ziel was out of proportion epicness.
Oh btw did anyone notice that Bright Noah is the only character in the gundam franchise that can slap like a man? When he laid that smack down on whinny Amuro and Camillie those fools came to the sense of what liles they are thus stop complaining then act a man. Whereas where Arthrun tried that on Shin it didn't work and i accidentally mistaken him for a girl in the middle of a chick fight.

omg I litterally blew soda throw my nose, that was frickin hilarious!
or if you are in the alternative camp.
britain= vast empire= The Earth federal forces
colonies = revolutionaries = zeon
zeon is actually fighting for independence from the authoritarian earth sphere. It harkens back to the american revolution where they despise being ruled by a government so far away that does not care about them.
but being a japanese show it more likely is like
Evil Americans = Earth federal forces. They are very strong and standing in the way of an expanding zeon that is becoming a force of its own.
righteous Japan= Zeon. They want their own empire, but earth federal forces are standing in the way so they launch a preemptive war ( aka ww2). This theory makes the most sense to me, because Earth federation is run much like america, while zeon is like the militaristic japan. They fight gallantly and win many astonishing victories but are always outnumbered by the mass production and number that the feddies hold, and hence you have the zeon last stands like Grenada (Aka Okinawa). I mean the original gundam series has so many simularities to WW2 that its not even funny.
