    Icon5 World War 3

    Hello,
Now it has been a thought as a possibility for a while now and recently there has been a hightened interest in the matter so I thought I would make a thread so people can post and discuss their opinions on the subject.

Well my opinion is that "it is a remote possibility".
Think about it the world to most people seems reasonably stable to most, the common thought of war only affecting the middle east and a small part of asia. Though its possible that western nations are affected by war.Not shown on in the media but yes there still is anger and racism to other cultures and nations. If anything I think the war would start in asia and move to a global scale.Perhaps china and north korea?maybe a nuclear threat from pakistan? or a invasion by the chinese on russian oil territory...
    nobody knows.

So go ahead and post your opinions!
    please everyone show respect.
    thank you.

    By whom?

I'm not saying there has not been - but I have not seen any - can you provide links?

there still is anger and racism to other cultures and nations
There has always been this - why do you think it would explode into war now?

If anything I think the war would start in asia and move to a global scale.Perhaps china and north korea?maybe a nuclear threat from pakistan? or a invasion by the chinese on russian oil territory...
    nobody knows.
And why do you think any of this will happen? What would motivate these countries to go to war?

I think a large scale war is quite frankly in the immediate future - too much to lose for one.

    @Nero

I believe that a major outbreak of war is always possible on our world. For example, North Korea keeps testing nukes and missiles. Japan will be forced to react, eventually. They could have nukes in about three months, if they wanted them, and they already have nuclear-capable missiles. Anything can happen.

However, I believe the Cold War was actually World War Three, and that it didn't go nuclear, thank God.

It could be argued that the Cold War was actually just a continuation with WW2 i mean the alliance that had existed to destroy the nazis slowly deteriated and withered its like in MTW when you use HRE to help you destroy France and when you are done they backstab you...

Hmm i think it could go so far to argue that WW1 WW2 and the Cold War are really continuations or just extensions of the origianal war perhaps it is all relational as the loser feels embitttered and more likely to strike when it can.

But for me WW3 would probably emalgamate from the middle east or indeed something China does/wants etc..

My friend reckons that water, as it gets scarcer may prompt nations to attack Britain for control of the lake district and whatnot, bit unlikely but you never know...

I have seen more articles recently but I forgot where they are.
There also has been numerous books and reports talking of world war three as well as even video games mimicking variations of world war three.
Do you watch the news ,read articles?
Pakistan and india have always been on edge as well as of course the famous north korea always on the news showing nuclear tests and what not.China as well with its huge build up of military power in recent years and the demand for oil these scenarios are not greatly unlikely to happen.
Your question on why racism and hate towards past enemies would explode now?
Well its because when people are put under pressure things tend to get out of hand and peoples mind sets change to a more frenzied state where old fustrations are released with out care.

My guess is, we will see the current world war entering its hot phase within the next 5 years.
    Trigger: Israeli attack on Iran.

Its a kind of quote of Gerlad Celente here, who said this:
IF Israel attacked on Iran any scale= World War 3.

All I did, was to check the ultra rightwing developments in Israel (election and verbal threats towards Iran), and connected the dots.

Somehow I would bet that you blame the Jews for AIDS, the Mongols, bubonic plague, hurricanes, global warming, and just about every other 'bad' thing that could or has happened to the world.

Why should they not attack Iran? Has not Iran's government threatened to wipe Israel off of the map?

Personally, I don't think it will take 5 years for Israel to attack Iran. Benjamin Netanyahu was elected on his promise not to allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. The clock is ticking, and I think this attack will occur this year.

But whether the Israeli attack on Iran will trigger a global event remains to be seen.

your guessing is based on completely ignoring the fact that the world is becoming a globalized one and the economy and politics are increasingly inter-dependent. Regional conflicts will continue to emerge. Big powers are increasingly unlikely to fight against each other.

Just to play devil's advocate. But this is EXACTLY what the world believed right before WW1.

Don't quite see what you are trying to say. Escalation of WW1 tensions and the belief that the world economy couldn't shoulder a "great, prolonged war" went hand in hand. While things may not be escalating at some dangerous pace sitting back and saying the world economy won't allow a large scale conflict between the world's power should remind most us of the "head in the sand" mentality that permeated Europe at the turn of the 20th century.

...do we have two equally powerful alliances playing arm race right now? Because if i recall correctly, we only have one superpower today with a bunch of lesser powerful countries, who aren't really allied against one another gearing for war.

I think it's possible that if the current recession really screws over the world's economy there might be some conflict. Perhaps not a third world war, per se, but more like civil unrest worldwide, and civil war in the poorer countries.

    Probably not.
If there's gonna be a big war it'll be over resources.

    The war of water!

But honestly, in the next 40-50 years this planet is supposed to add an estimated 2 Billion people

If things aren't run the right way it could make for some serious headaches.
