    Icon4 Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX+ 512mb to Radeon 4870 1GB.. Good to Do?

    Hey All,

Thinking of updating my graphics card. Switching from my Geforce 9800GTX+ 512mb to Radeon 4870 1GB. Do you think I would notice a differance on this switch? I have seen good things on benchmarking tests etc. (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...4870,1964.html)

    Good price on http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...x1y0z1p0s0n0m0 also

    My system specs as below...

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 2 x 3.00Ghz 6Mb Cache
    4GB Corsair Ram 1066mhz
    Vista Home Prem
    500GB Hard Drive
    Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX+ 512mb ( on your decision maybe... Radeon 4870 1GB)

    Many Thanks

Is your 9800GTX+ struggling with current games? I doubt that it, most games should fly on that card although the 512Mb frame buffer might hold it back a bit one games like GTA IV. Upgrading now isn't worth it IMO your card should have another 8 months to a years worth of life in it.

What resolution are you playing in? You'll notice something if you're playing 1680x1050 or any higher. I doubt you'll get a big difference if you're playing in something lower than 1680x1050.

9800GTX+ here too. Runs everything I throw at it, all high. Is yours an EVGA? If so, and you decide to get the ATI, I'll buy your 9800. Would help offset the cost of the ATI.

Gityerown! No, I did offer to purchase his cuz I'm looking for another EVGA 9800GTX+ to SLi. I know I could get a new one, but if he's gonna replace it anyway, no sense in it collecting dust.

I prefer buying "second hand" hardware. I especially love the early adopters just for this reason! I quit buying the bleeding edge stuff a couple years ago. It's pointless except for bragging rights imo.

Nice, I wonder how well the GS version holds up compared with it...

haha , already got people trying to buy the thing before its even out of the computer and replaced .

Could you run it in SLI as its 512mb and yours is 1GB? And its a Zotac not a EVGA. Sorry lol

I think that what freddie said about the buffer coould be holding back the potential. Not sure that if its worth it at this stage though... hmmmm
