    Default install help

    I have RTW Gold Edition.

I made a fresh Install, and installed XGM on that. according to the Readme, XGM installs in its own folder...
actually, I wasn't sure exactly what the Readme meant about that. I can just install XGM in any old folder of its own, yeah?

anyway, I installed it to a folder labelled XGM, within my Rome Total War Folder.

when I installed XGM, it said I required either Rome 1.5 or BI 1.6... and that since I did not have the proper version, I might encounter problems.. well, I have BI 1.6.. that's what it reads in the options screen.. so that message raised an eyebrow

during the XGM install I got a message saying such and such a file did not install properly, and that there was a failure at some point during the batch transfer... after install, I told XGM to run through the BI .exe ...

long story short, when I loaded up XGM, it only ran Vanilla Rome... no XGM in sight.

    any ideas?

You can't install it in any folder, you have to install it in the folder where your RomeTW.exe is.

I had the message about not having the correct version, the solution was easy for me:

When you run the install make sure you point it to the full directory, you look some like this

    C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome Total War

(wrote that from memory so the syntax might not be quite correct)

it took me a bit to realise the install path that was selected was missing the Rome Total War part at the end. Problem solved.

sigh... you know, that's what I ALWAYS do with Mods. I mean, that's the pretty much the status quo: install it to the game's folder.
and that's was my first instinct with XGM, but the wording of the readme confused me... or maybe it was the wording in one of the install menus.

I'll try and find it ....

Mod Folder: XGM installs to its own mod folder and does not change any of the original game files. You can use the XGM shortcut to run XGM, or the original RTW shortcut to run the unmodified game, and XGM will not interfere with any other mods.
Now, it can't be just me.. That sentence is confusing, right!??

I understand now, the meaning, but it should just say: Install the Mod to the same folder as the Rome and BI .exe files, and XGM will automatically create it's own folder. It will not change any of the original... etcetera

I think the sentence about mod-foldering makes sense, but it would be a good idea to add a note about the install path, probably somewhere around point 2 of the install instructions.
