Fortunately you're using Photoshop, so I can just tell you what it is that I do.. The file you're looking for is something like this "unit name"_normal.dds. This file controls the height map underneath the diffuse.dds and the gloss.dds.
When you open this file, you'll see a pinkish height map that simulates the height details that couldn't be added to the model itself. When you edit this texture, you can use the clone tool to remove certain areas or mold them into the existing texture..
IMPORTANT: Don't forget to also edit the 'alpha channel'. This is essentially the same height map, except in black and white. If you skip the editing of the alpha channel, you will still see the old height map through the new textures.
Hopefully that helped! Oh, and good work by the way.. This is looking very promising!
