Report from the Northern Border
Never before in the history of the glory of Rome has such an unprecedented barbarian onslaught been stemmed with such bravery,tenacity and sheer determinism by our victorious troops.In attack after attack,the vile hordes of Germania were thrown back by our volunteer,farmer militias and mercenary auxillia,the cost was high but unfortunately the mining town of Tergesta was unfortunately lost,yes,lost to the greeks cities after the brave garrison had repeatedly halted the germanians only to be overwhelmed before help could arrive and finally succumbing to the armoured hoplite invasion.
The Germanians then,hell bent on vengeance sent in everything they had,army after army,numbering thousands and thousands of vile pictish barbary invaded our Northern provinces which unforutately,although a brave resistance from two Roman armies on the now called "Bridge of Death" (the bodies of the dead floated constantly downriver) also these brave men failed to hold the line and the evil barbarian Germanic horde assaulted the coastal town of Ariminum.
Maniacal beserkers led by Germanian family member put fear into the Roman hearts,but brave units sallied forth from the town time after time in a deperate attempt to slow the Germanians down,slow then down to buy time,time to bring the XXV Legion from Sicily.
As XXV Legion had a few hundred kilometers to go,hastily and constantly embarking and disembarking along 1000 km route with auxillia archers a Germanian Family led army of 4000 assaulted the town with the woe going round of maybe losing an important civilised province to these foreigners,and with great forboding (i am not kidding you,cause to get here i have been fighting these guys for 4 hours solid and theres another four full stacks already on the way,two of them already outside the town) the brave roman garrison sallied forth from the town to engage the cowardly,confident enemy army.
A MIRACLE!!! Brilliant tactics won the day (no) in a miraculous heroic victory the Enemy at the Gates (lol) were completely and utterly routed (i sent out what i had left,there were hastati,triarii,principes,everything exept the archers,i enticed them within range and the line held) and for a brief moment of respite the towns encirling seige was lifted.
On the next day,to cries of joy,and tears of happiness Legio XXV arrived in Ariminum,after disembarking from the ships they hastily made their way to the town to take defensive positions as four enemy armies assembled on the field,and then....they were gone???
Cavalry units were sent in an attempt to find these missing armies,it was confirmed later they were seen crossing the border North into the Cisalpine Gaul Meladionum area,our legionnaires quickly took up position on the river to the north of the province,set up camp and we await to see the enemies next move,but for now it seems,the vile germanic maniac horde has its plans elsewhere.
All because i took Tergestaafter opening a Iberian front,which seems to make the Gauls less agressive? there was another side show event ferrying troops from tingis and gades to Carthago Nova and intemittent battles with gauls,but not near anything on the scale of a full german invasion.
last night was a make or break night,luckily for Rome,we held the line,but there was tens of thousand left lying on the fields that year
