    Default help with map making

i have a 1025x1025 bmp heightmap that i can convert into .raw with photoshop
    i have colored a 2048x2048 jpg

importing dds files into gimp is not working for me.
can i just create four .raw files and convert to dds that way or must i use gimp?

im just trying to get my feet wet... i didnt spend a ton of time on either.. i want to get the basics down before i start fine tuning the details.

you can view both pics here and download a .rar of both at the bottom of the page...

    help appreciated, comments welcome

i think i know where i ran into trouble...

    from the lordz tutorial...

Now you’ll need to run the maps script in Gimp on this map. Install the maps-script.scm and
maps-script2.scm gimp scripts in the folder below:
    ..\program files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\scripts
Restart GIMP and load the dds file we just made.
Go to filters and select the maps script down below.

first off the part where it says restart gimp and load the dds file... is this correct??

in all of the pictures it looks like a .bmp has been loaded... which would make a whole lot more sense to me... because the scripts dont allow for dds import/export like the guide leads you to think... but instead the scripts are what tiles the picture for you... and i couldnt tell i had them installed because the picture in the tutorial does not match what the program says.. im looking for map script and new map script and its actually called tile colored map tile height map.

also in the process of banging my head on my desk for hours trying to figure out why i couldnt load dds into gimp... i found several plugins for photoshop that allows for working with dds...
this one works for me http://developer.nvidia.com/object/p...s_plugins.html

now... how do i get the tiled map from gimp to dds.. according to the guide you just export them from gimp that way... but in the picture its a .bmp and there is no load or save as dds feature in the gimp version i have..
wouldnt this just be easier to do all in photoshop? i dont really want a repeating landscape even if it is in the distance...

i found the link to the gimp dds plugin in the other thread...

    now my next problem...

first i followed the directions in the lordz tutorial... and assembled all the files... modified the db and loc files and dropped it into etw... when i fire it up i crash back to desktop before the 2nd screen..
so i find tsailians tutorial and notice he says to export import in tsv... so i follow this method instead of editing in the pack manager ... save it all up and drop it into etw... same thing... crash to desktop...

so i decide to try something more simple.. maybe there is a problem with one of my files... so i take the arcnai plains map and add it to the current version of the map mod... i crash to desktop..

all i did was add a few lines of text to mapmod's battles.tsv and localisation.tsv with text i copied from the arcani plains files of the same name.. unpack the both packs.. copy the arcani plains folder over to the madmod presets folder and repack it... this may sound like gibberish... but it should be cake.. yet i am crashing to desktop...

so i ask .... is there anything i need to do.. a step missing.. something.. plz save my sanity!

What did you use to edit the two files? Use excel, never ever wordpad or something like that, it will mess up the file. In order to get the edited files back into the mod, use the import csv function.

if you change the number of players you also have to make sure to edit the deploymentzones.xml and vice versa.
